Dear All,
I though I would show you these scans before I try and sell it {no sells pitch intended here}... any feedback as usual will be greatfully accepted.
As far as I can tell Sb is for Funkobergefreiter Helmut Kramer. He was born on the 3rd of July 1924 in Lobegallen. The SB was issued to him on the 28th of October 1942 by the 3rd company of the 32Ersatz Marine Artillerie Abteilung.
After serving with several ship's artillery training units, he was assigned to the 2. Unterseebootslehrdivision on the 19th June 1943. He then attended the Naval School in Murwik and was trained as a radio operator. He was reassigned to the 2 Unterseebootslehrdivision by September 1943 and as of the 10th of October 1943 he was assigned to the Fuhrer der Unterseeboote West and was assigned to the 3 Unterseebootslehrdivision.
I assume he was based at La Rochelle, as there are two stamps of the Naval Signal Station at this location. It is unclear if Kramer was assigned to a particular U-boot or was a radioman at a U-boot HQ communicating with operational U-boots. He did receive the U-bootspackchen on two occasions.
Helmut Kramer passed away in 1975.
