    Erkennungsmarke, unit?

Am I correct in reading this tag as:

    2. Schützen-Ersatz-Kompanie of Schützen-Ersatz-Regiment 81 = 2. / Schützen-Ersatz-Regiment 81
    Attached Files

    The correct is:

    2. Kompanie, Schützen-Ersatz-Kompanie 81

Strange have 2 Kompanie, but the book Deutsche Erkennungsmarken of the Jean Höidal have one this in the page 89.

Höidal made some mistakes in his book. He hasn`t a 2./Schützen Ersatz Kompanie 81 in his book at page 89.

          2. Kompanie, Schützen-Ersatz-Kompanie 81. This naming is wrong, because the word Kompanie is in it twice !

The right name is: 2. (Schützen Ersatz) Kompanie / Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 81

The second coy of the Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 81 trained the Schützen in the normal Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon.

          Infanterie = Infantry
Schützen = motorized/mechanized Infantry. Later known as Panzergrenadiere.

            Thank you Fronti,
(Schützen Ersatz) Kompanie / Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 81 - I thought of that as well as a possibility but have a look at the tag that Gerdan referred to (below) - which makes me think that 81 is meant as Schützen Ersatz Regimet 81 rather than Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 81

              ...but...!

Schützen Ersatz Regiment 81 had no "own" coys ! (Only one Signal replacement coy)

All other Batallions which were under command of the Regimental staff had other numbers.

Batallions under command of Schützen Ersatz regiment 81:

              Schützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 1
              Schützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 6
              Schützen-Ersatz-Bataillon12

              Best regards, Fronti

Good point - so then all coys in IEB81 were called Schützen-Kompanie?

                  Hello

I don`t know it, but IMO it isn`t so.

                  1. (Infanterie) Kompanie / Inf Ers Btl 81
                  2. (Schützen) Kompanie / Inf Ers Btl 81
                  3. (Infanterie) Kompanie / Inf Ers Btl 81
                  4. (MG) Kompanie / Inf Ers Btl 81

                  ...or something like that.

                  Best regards, Fronti
