Discharge in WP question

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a police stamping at the back of a Wehrpass signifies, being made at the end of the war after the man was discharged on 5.5.1945 and given 50DM pay.....The weird thing is that he was then taken as a POW and only released later.......

Also in his Soldbuch I found his POW number...is there anyway to trace this or to do some research on it?

Hello David,

I have a wehrpass with a stamp in it with a note stating that the wehrpass was examined and indeed belonged to the owner. Perhaps your stamp on the back is also for this purpose. They identified the wehrpass as being the soldiers and then he was taken as a POW. I guess they used the wehrpass also to determine the years in a POW camp.

It could be simply as you have mentioned.....he was officially discharged from the Wehrmacht through the Police authority and received 50.- RM discharge pay! However that was by the German authorities and he was then taken prisoner of war by the Allied authorities!

Can you show a picture of this to confirm, if not send it to me and I will attach it.

I have one where the guy was taken PoW and released by the allies as he was no "threat" and an Army Stabsarzt, however one day later he was inprisoned again (PoW or German authorities not sure at the moment?!) as he was a member of the NSDAP from 1933 and an Allgemeine SS Untersturmführer!.....will try and show this later

Ok the discharge entries are on the usual pages of the Wehrpass, with the pay entry being dated 5.5.1945 as shown in the following picture...back page of Wehrpass has inked in number, 1367 535, which I believe to possibly be his POW number unless anyone has other ideas?

The police stamp probably dates from when he registered in the town where he was living after being discharged. Depending on the state of the local authorities at the time, this was probably done with the police rather than with a civilian/local government authority, which may not have been re-established or formally instituted by 25 (?) May.

David these stamps appear to indicate he was issued a card for foodstuffs/groceries (Lebensmittel) twice and a card for tobacco (Tabakkarte). Probably some kind of stamp to indicate the issuance of a type of ration card.
