How did the germens wear there dog tags?Were?

Usually around their neck, but sometimes in pouches.

The tags have 3 holes in them, 2 on the top and one of the bottom. Typically string was looped through the top 2 and then worn around the neck. I have also seen photos of soldiers wearing them off their belts.
