      miraul,
Interesting tag. I have not seen this format on 500 tags before. The accpted format has been replicated by fakers, so this tag is intersting. Did you find the tag yourself, and if you did - where?
      Cheers,
      Ray.

Ray do you have anything in your files on a tag like this??

This tag if original would be for a very rare unit! They came from a recruiting depot in Russia. and staged up in Debica Poland in early 1944. They did not get the 500 designation until April 1944.. The unit was disbanded in Warsaw October 1944 after their 'work' was done in the Warsaw uprising in August and Sept. The survivors were sent to a replacement unit..

So the unit was together as Jg.500 Batl. for 5 months!! It IS possible that during that 5 months a soldier lost his tag and would have recieved one then named to this unit..

miraul , You might have something very nice here!. Is there a blood group letter on back? What other items other than the SS buckle did you find there? What other tags did you find there? This tag for ground dug is in good shape. What circumstance did you find it? , thanks, G.

              Hi Gaspare!
Very rare unit tag alright. Don't have very much info on the unit. If the other items ( a SS belt buckle among other things) found with the tag are genuine, then I can see no reason why the tag isn't. Certainly a very small window for the tag unit designation (5 month period). But it can't be ruled out. Maybe for such a unit in size, it wasn't uncommon to find such tags. Certainly worthy of further investigation.
              Cheers,
              Ray.

                hi.
i have found near oder bruckenkopf in poland. have not group blood on back. in front on the top is between J and G somethink like 0. on the below between 6 and 2 also 0, but i think its not bloodgroup only error. i find else cartrige for 5cm granate werfer, stg amunition, etc . in a trenches was many more but today are only empty hole.my friend was found near here stg44 in beautiful shape with magazine and ammo.no more tags . i think ssman feared red army and has thrown out it .
                best regards
