Wehrpass killed by le resistance Tulle 1944

Interesting Wehrpass from a Scharführer killed by le resistance on 7. June 1944 in Tulle!!

    Johannes Albert
Born 3. May 1907 in Kiel
    Civilian occupation, Police NCO.

Wehrpass was issued in 1935 when Johannes served his time as a NCO at the Wehrmacht Art. Regt.68.

After his Wehrmacht service he returned to his police duty and must have served at the Jewish Ghetto in Litzmannstadt at some point, as it’s the SD commander from Litzmannstadt, who retruns the Wehrpass to his wife after KIA in France to his wife.

The Wehrpass has only a few wartime entries, but according to a handwritten Feldpostnumber on the front of the Wehrpass) he must have been part of the SD in France 13324D= Sicherheits-Polizei (SD) Frankreich Einsatz-Kommando Limoges

If you do a search on him on the Volksbund Gräbersuche, you will find all data in the Wehrpass matching him listed as Scharführer and today buried at Berneuil , France.

The Wehrpass comes with a letter, telling his wife he had been KIA in “in Kampf mit Terroristen”

Makes it quite topical to today to see them refer to him being killed by terrorists.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

This seems to be related to the massacres at Tulle and Oradour-sur-Glane

Here is an excerpt from a webpage on the massacres.

"On June 7, word reached Das Reich command, that FTP forces had attacked the German garrison unit in the town of Tulle. The Der Fuhrer regiment arrived on the outskirts of town on June 9. The reconaissance battalion (under the command of Major Heinrich Wulf) entered the city without significant loss, relieving the beleagured defenders of the 95th Security Regiment

A total of 139 Germans were killed, some of which (the SS alleged) were German prisoners. A reprisal order was issued, the source of which is disputed."

Please see link below for complete text. There is a lot to read on the Web on these historical events.

An interesting excerpt from Marc Rickmenspoel's study on the Oradour and Tulle massacres.

"In the light of day on June 9, Das Reich took stock of the situation in Tulle. Forty men of III./95 were discovered dead near a school. They showed signs of execution, and local civilians reported the men had been killed after dropping their weapons and surrendering. Only an SD officer with them had a pistol in his hand. Most of the bodies were mutilated, some had had their genitals cut off and stuffed into their mouths. Others had been covered with excrement. One man had holes in his heels with a rope through them, and a ruined face, indicating that he had been tied to the back of a truck and driven around. Other bodies were found around town, bringing the total German dead to 64. The III./95 had reported 80 missing, meaning several were unaccounted for. And 9 more Germans died in rescuing the garrison."

Could this single SD chap possibly be Johannes?
