Thanks Simon, any idea of his aircrew trade, also he is not in the 1945 rangliste

He was most probably an observer (Beobachter).

He is not listed on the German War Graves site.....I will take a look in the Vermisstenbildliste and KG26 book

The name seems familiar so I will also check my records.....

              /Ian

                    Interesting piece.

The navy personnel which served early on with LW crews is nice to see and not often found, as noted previous.

It appears that his entries end around April 42 with his final posting as Grosse Kampffliegerschule 5. Curious if he was perhaps brought back as an instructor since the unit was later redesignated Kampfbeobachterschule 4.

Lets take a look at this again, now I have the time!

The Mob. Nr. is either a mistake in the Soldbuch or a mistake in the Mob. Nr. lists, 73553 does not exist however:

                      73552

                      - Küst.Flg.Stafel 1/406, Rantum/Sylt u. List
                      - Küst.Flg.Staffel 2/806 former K.Mz.St. 3.506
                      - 8/K.G. 54

April 1941 he transferred to Große Kampffliegerschule 5 in Parow and as Jeremy noted the entries seem to stop April 1942 with this unit.

The leave entered on page 23 ended on 6.3.1942 then I presume he went on a course and went back to the Kriegsmarine. There are entries for Wehrsold, soaps, cigarette card from Stabszug, Marine Nachrichtenschule Mürwik.
If this is the case then he would have a Kriegsmarine Soldbuch after this book as well!

I found no reference to him in the KG 26 book or in the Vermisstenbildliste for the same unit but then he was only there for 4 months

Unless, he went to 8/K.G. 54 when his old unit was re-desginated that in September 1942....there's another book to read!

                      Will take another look later

                      /Ian

Right....been digging around as I thought he had gone back to the KM and I knew of an officer with a higher rank with the same name...

Need his DoB but you are not online...so I flipped the image .....it appears to be 27.8.1915

                          Kapitänleutnant Gerhard Landgraf.

                          Born 27.8.1915. Killed 12.10.1942 aboard U-597.

From the German War Graves site, thought I had checked but must have discounted this as did not have his DoB at the time!:

                          Nachname: Landgraf
                          Vorname: Gerhard
                          Dienstgrad: Kapitänleutnant
                          Geburtsdatum: 27.08.1915
                          Geburtsort:
                          Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 12.10.1942
                          Todes-/Vermisstenort:

(As a member of a fallen Marine, his name is recorded in either the U-boat memorial Möltenort near Kiel on the wall panels or in the Naval memorial in Laboe in the memorial book there).
