    Wow Barry,

Great history that goes with that Soldbuch you show us here on WAF.

He was a very lucky guy, to survive that shot from 15 meters away, and the two US soldiers who didn't allow that he was finished by another US soldier.

That family photo makes the history of your booklet extra personal.

    Thanks for showing !

    yours friendly

Very nice piece of history, indeed.
I am happy to see some documents of Gren. Regt. 941, since I have two. One of the man was wounded on 9 july, in the same area of your.

              Why not ?
Here is the first group (sorry, it is too little ) :

This man was first with 205.ID in Russia were he got Inf. St. Abz. i. Silber (doc. not shown here), and later joined the new Gren. Regt. 941. After his wound on 9 july, and his EK II on 17 july, we was transferred to 85.ID and fought with her during last days of normandy campaign (end of august), later in Belgium and Holland (sept. - oct.).

Great document and history - thanks for showing.

I can't help but wonder what the U.S. soldier who shot the surrendering German might think if he were to view this thread and reflect upon these events.

                Nice post.

Alan, it does make you wonder what the soldier was thinking, but unfortunately we'll never know why the G.I. was trigger happy. Who knows, maybe his best comrade had been cut down ten minutes before. The fact is, both sides shot prisoners - I have been told this by several American soldiers as well as German soldiers. War is hell as they say!

I think it's cause he was in Grenadier Reg. 941 for a few months (although not the same company or anything), and Barrys soldbuch here was from a member in 941 in Normandy.
