    Please help

Is there any way to acquire the Wherpass and Soldbuch for my Opa? He was Luftwafe 1936-1945. If it can be done, what info do I need to have? Photo below:

    Hi,

Your chances are almost negligable, unless you have a vague idea of what happened to them after the war...I have the same problem with some relatives of mine! Its like asking about the career of any old Unteroffizier!

Good luck! If you do find them please post the description of how you did it on the forum. I have been trying for years to find some of my relatives docc's, etc... without success, and I too would be interrested in any methods that work.

        Help

I'm assuming your relative survived the war. If this is the case, it would be safe assume he was most likely issued his Wehrpas upon completion of his military service to use as his civilian ID. If your relative does not have his WP it most likely resides in a collection somewhere or worse ended up discarded when its usefulness had passed. That said, the below link is for the German Armed Forces war records office in Berlin, Deutsches Dienstelle, which may have his soldbuch if it survived the war. In some instances I believe discharged soldiers received both forms of ID. Since you are a relative, DD should be more friendly to your inquiries since in the past probably 10 years they have been less than thrilled with handing over info. on their citizens past military service. This is probably your starting point and should be done with all available information, units (he appears to have been in Flak units), date of birth, place of birth etc.. Other members will most likely have other avenues to pursue.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

It should also be noted that in the event the Deutsches Dienstelle is in possesion of either of these documents, the best you could hope for would be photo copies, if that. Since these are government documents, they will not sell or relingquish ownership of them.
