    Questions to a Kriegsmarine Soldier

Can somebody provide some further details to the following?

Have a man who was a soldier in the Kriegsmarine, under his official Position we find that he was Rekrut in 1941. Any later commention to his official position after then were just only numbers as follows:

    16.S.St.A. 2g

    Ksfl.Pomm.Küst. 7.7
    Ers.Komp. 5811
    L.Stütz.Linz 4425/ k3b
    Aufb.Kdo.Saloniki 4792 / k3b

Can anyone please tell me what those numbered abbreviations tell me about my soldier?

    Many thanks

    Hello,

    16.S.St.A. 2g:

    16. Schiffsstammabteilung
Formed in Gotenhafen in June 1940 from the 6. Schiffstammabteilung. In August 1940 it was moved to Bergen op Zoom & Rosendaal Holland. In March 1945 it was redesignated Marineschützenregiment. The Abteilung was subordinate to the 2. Admiral der Nordsee.

      Thanks Floris,

but I need to look behind those numbered abbreviations behind those mentioned units,

      2g
      7.7
      5811
      4425/ k3b
      4792 / k3b

My first post is probably not realy clear,

No idea what the numbers refer to....Marinestammrollennummer?

        To the abbreviations:

        Ksfl.Pomm.Küst. 7.7 - Küstenbefehlshabers pommersche Küste
        Ers.Komp. 5811 - Ersatz Kompanie
        L.Stütz.Linz 4425/ k3b - ?
        Aufb.Kdo.Saloniki 4792 / k3b - Ausbildungs Kommando Saloniki

Can you show what these are written on?

L.Stütz. Linz - could the abbreviation be related with "Landesschützen ..." (Btl. / Rgt. ? ) Linz

          (Donau) ?

              I read " L - Stützp(unkt ?) Linz "

              This could mean :

              Luftwaffenstützpunkt am Freinberg bei Linz

And now something really pretty confusing:

The chart says, red entrys are on board of a ship,

                  black entrys are in land

The Airfield would not fit on a boat...

It seems something different than the Luftwaffenstützpunkt.

It would probably prefer more to Landungsstützpunkt...

so it was named by the official WASt Letter.

                  Thanks

I found an other text from an other soldier in the www dealing with "Landungsstützpunkt Linz" and Greece.

So there should have been a Landungsstützpunkt in Greece with the code name "Linz" ( as the town in Austria).

Here part of the text, dealing with an information on the grandfather of a lady. May be your guy and this soldier have bee partly in the same unit:

"Laut Wast war mein Großvater zwischen dem
                    18.12.1943-19.04.1944 II Abteilung Ersatzkompanie
                    20.04.1944-04.05.1944 Landungsstützpunkt Linz
                    05.05.1944-12.10.1944 Aufbaukommando Saloniki

So we are far away from the Linz airfield!
