    Kennbuch Ukrainer with rare photo

These Kennbuecher are not extremely rare but I have only seen two with photos attached. Does anyone have examples of the Baltic issued ones?

It´s a really nice example with the photo and the
"Tapferkeitsauszeichnung für Angehörige der Ostvölker 2. Klasse in Bronze"
awarded to the soldier! Even the ribbon is visible in the photo. There are not so many pictures of Eastern Volunteers with awards, in my opinion.

          Michal,
I've never seen one with the photo attached. Nice example with an award.

              Hi Michal,

First time I see one with a photo and an award in it, so two extra bonuses for that booklet.

              Thank you for showing.

              yours friendly

                            Hi Michal,

Another nice example with a photo you show us here.

This guy served in the West, while most booklets that I have seen are for guys who stayed in the East, and / or Eastern part of Germany.

In this man's booklet, Bourg near Lyon in France is mentioned.

Thanks for showing it to us on WAF.

                              Ausweis,

I recently acquired a Kennbuch for a Russian soldier who served in the exact same unit as your soldier. After being released from prisoner of war camps, both men volunteered to fight for the German Army and were sworn in. Both men were originally assigned to Ost-Regiment z.b.V. 752 (Eastern [Volunteer] Regiment for Special Deployment 75), which in 1944 was based in Gavray, France, and assigned to the 709. Infanterie-Division (709th Infantry Division) based on the Cherbourg Peninsula. Since both of our Kennbücher have photos, it would appear that Ost-Regiment z.b.V. 752 was one of the few Ost units that required photos. As of 1 April 1944, both soldiers were assigned to Armee-Waffenschule Ost (Army Weapons School East). I could find no information about this unit, but assume it was based on the Cherbourg Peninsula. If anyone knows anything about this unit, please post it here. My soldier, Unteroffizier Alexa Safonow, was captured by Corporal William Pigue of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. The collector I bought this Kennbuch acquired it about thirty years ago and wrote a note about it. It's interesting that he noted that Safonow joined an SS Division. It is quite possible that he fought with the 17. SS-Division-Panzergrenadier-Division "Götz von Berlichingen" at the time of his capture. Being captured by the Allies was not usually a ticket to freedom. Most of these Eastern volunteers were returned to Russia where they were subject to harsh punishment or executed.

Saranow's collar tabs appear to be different than standard German Army collar tabs. Can anyone confirm this? Are they perhaps special tabs for Eastern volunteers?
