Need your help ! U-Boot Soldbuch / Wehrpass

    Hello

I need the help of all guys, who have U-Boot crew Soldbücher or Wehrpässe in their possession !

We have a discussion, regarding U-Booz personal dogtag markings in the german MFF.

One theory is, that thy have an "U" in front of the Marinestation on their dogtags.

Can you please help, to verify this theory?

Please post the page one of your U-Bootcrew Soldbücher and Wehrpässe with the dogtag entry.

    Best regards, Fronti

      Hello

It seemed to be, that the U-Boot crew had an "U" in Front of Stammrollennummer.

Not all of them, but quite a lot. In some Soldbücher you can see a big red "U" stamp at the dogtag page !

      Very interesting !

          Hi Fronti,

Most Kriegsmarine men did start with a N (Nordsee) or O (Ostsee) Erkennungsmarke, and their personal number.

If they went after basic training to the UBoats an U could be placed in front of their number in the Soldbuch, but that wasn't always done.

When a man did serve already with the Uboats before he received his Soldbuch in 1941, the U could ofcourse be a part of his Erkennungsmarke number at once when the Soldbuch was filled in to him.

I have in my own collection and have seen Erkennungsmarke that did have the N or O and the number official stamped in it, and a later private scratched U in front of it.

          yours friendly

          Eric-Jan

            Hello Eric-Jan

            That`s my theory, too.

...but there must be an order from Kriegsmarine (High command), to do so. Does anyone have Orders, concerning dogtags from Kriegsmarine, especially UBoot personal dogtags ?
