Kriegsmarine Dog Tag as a bracelet

    Hello my friends,

my knowledge about Kriegsmarine items is not very good.

I´ve got a dog tag, styled as an bracelet.

Is this common for Kriegsmarine dog tags? And what information gives me the writing on the dog tag?

    Any help is welcome!

    Best wishes

    Joerg

No Joerg, I wouldn't think it common at all for a Kriegsmarine Erkennungsmarke to be worn this way. In fact, I've never seen one like this- it's quite a neat piece. Obviously the owner wanted his this way and it doesn't look like an amateur job- I wouldn't be surprised if he had a watchmaker or watch shop do it for him.

      Very interesting!

Thanks Matt! You are right, this was a professional job to make this "bracelet".

I found out that this kind of dog tags (not the bracelet of course) were used for NCO´s and Soldiers until 01.01.1942. Later the used "Kriegsmarine" and the Number, but not longer the name.

        Best wishes

        Joerg

Very cool looking piece! I've never seen one like it either.

The other information on it would include his stammrollen (personal number) and the rest to decipher what unit he belonged to I believe.

Nice piece, hang on to it!

What happens if the dog tag needed to be snapped, wouldn't if fall off all together from the watch band?

Yes Shane, the watch band would fall of the two pieces of the dog tag then.

Not that it would really matter to the owner at that time

Quite right Gaspare- I hadn't thought of that picture. Not as nice a job, but indeed a similar modification for wear with a watchband. I guess Joerg's is SEMI unique

                      Hi Gaspare,

Don't you mind posting here a scan of this tag in Hoidal's book please ? Or Matt ? I'd be interested in seeing it.

                      Thanks,
