    What did Ausbildungs Battalions do?

I was wondering what an Ausbildungs(training) battalion would do?
I was thinking that maybe he would have been a quartermaster or something of the sort through most of the war until he was put in Combat in '44.
    Any help appreciated!

Could have been part of the cadre of the unit....could have been an instructor...or was taking part in special training....or was just not fit enough to go to the front!?!?

If the latter is the case there should be medical examinations in the book....on page 35 maybe? Also his fitness grade would have been entered on page 5 when he joined.....

Is there any special training on page 20 - 21?

At his first examination he was temporarily unfit until 28.2.1943....at the second he was found fit for active duty......or at least fit enough to join the Wehrmacht.....

Typical weapons entries for infantry/basic training and Heer Flak.

He looks young but in 1943 he was 18 years old!!!!
I have a Wehrpaß to a boy who was born in 1929!!! He was a member of the Hitler Youth and has passed combat school ready to join the Wehrmacht with an Unteroffizier Schule......lucky for him the war came to an end two months after he joined the Wehrmacht at 15!!!

He was classed as a Kampf Freiwilliger!

That must be quite a rare Wehrpass!

I am glad my dad got me interested in this hobby. It is a unique one, for most teenagers have no respect for history. As of April 2nd, I will be 16, which makes it 6-7 years that I have actually been collecting Third Reich militaria.
And as for Northern Ireland-were you fighting against Irish rebels, such as in Belfast and the area? My mom has some Irish in her, but southern Irish.

The young lad was only 154 cm or 5 feet tall. Maybe this prevented him from frontline service until they took everybody who could carry a gun. Maybe they waited first hoping he might still grow a bit.

I never thought to look into his height! 5 FEET HIGH! The poor fellow probably got made fun of.
And to answer your question Ian, my dad generally collects WWI German militaria (has a complete combat uniform!), but also is getting back into WWII German along side me. Back when he started collecting in the mid-1970's, he could get an M44 combat tunic for a whopping $25, a Heer Infantry officer's visor cap for $45, Heer Infantry Leutnant's tunic for $55 , and so on. Too bad he sold almost all the WWII German stuff he had , which consisted of a complete Luftwaffe leutnant's uniform ensemble, a complete WWII German EM uniform ensemble and a complete Infantry Leutnant's uniform ensemble.
                          Too bad, eh?
Just PM me if you want to see some of his items.-Include your email
