Soldbuch + Wehrpass penatly unit 999

    Hi all,

I just got this set of a Soldbuch and Wehrpass from the same men. I just wated to have some more backround information about the unit the guy served in.
He was born in Kattowitz which is now Poland. In the Wehrpass his nationality is given with Deutsches Reich, but also Poland is mentioned. I cannot read the entry properly.
He served in ww1 and later in ww2 untill 30.4.1939 when he was released from service. His duty starts again at 1.8.1944. So my question is could it be that he was released in 1939 due to some crime or so ? That would be a reason why he was enlisted in the Bau Pio. Batl. 999 ?

There is a paper in the Soldbuch about "wehrwürdige and bedingt wehrwürdige Soldiers that should immediatly be sent to the Rhein Kommandant in Koblenz"
He also got trained with the Panzerfaust.

Is there any more info on him or his unit that could sheed some light into his service ?

    Thanks Jens

Typical old guy mobilisiert in 1939 and realised in 1940 (here in 1939) and remobilisiert in 1944.

Yes, but why was he remobilised in a Bewährungs unit (penalty) ? I thought you had to do a crime or another thing of some sort to get there ?

Dealing with his nationality (page 1) I read "Deutsches Reich, früher Polen" - Deutsches Reich - formerly/previous Poland

          It also mentions Torgau http://www.69th-infantry-division.com/torgauprison.html

Could he have been in prison there? I have a group to a Penal guy who was recruited from the prison...

Actually, if you look close at the third entry in the Wehrpass (page 12?), the one just above the red line, the date is 30.4.19. He never served in WWII prior to the 1.8.44 date.
Also, all bewährung units had to have their "non-criminal" cadre personnel(stammannschaft). Maybe, because of his age, he was one of those.
