    Arbeitsbuch for foreigner worker

    Hi,

I spotted a Arbeitsbuch (for Auslander) for a male Polish worker recently. Does anyone know how common they are as I have never seen one before.

It has photgraph and a few entries.

    thks,

    Andrew

    Andrew,
They are relatively scarce. I have one in my collection that was issued to a Bulgarian farm helper. If you collect documents, it is a good one to have.

I've never seen many either. I don't know if this is true or not, but I was told eons ago that these books were issued to the people who "volunteered" to work for the Germans, and for that reason may have been considered "collaborators" and ditched them at the first chance after Liberation.

Slave workers certainly got no such IDs.

        arbeitsbuch for foreigners

        Hello,

These things do appear from time to time here in Belgium .

Rick i must say i doubt that explanation very much, in my neighbourghood there is living a man who was transported towards Germany ( he never volunteerd => he was arrested and send towards Germany somwhere in 1942 ) , and did work for the German's in Kiel ( in a Factory making parts for the u - boats ) , this man survived and got back home + still has these papers .

He receives nowadays a pension from the Belgium govnt. so i really do not believe that collaborators should receive any kind of pension from our State !!!! , he is even entitield to receive a amount of money from the German state for his duties back then.

I wil visit him and ask if i may scan these docs to share here.

        Greetings,

          Hello all,
as a postscript to this, these particular books seem to be more common over here in the UK, than elsewhere for some reason...not sure why, but i tend to see them cropping up at most of the fairs i attend over here. Most dealers put all their military Id's, wehrpass, soldbuch , etc to the forefront and leave this kind of book languishing in their "Misc" pile....i have two. One to a Ukrainian, who has the rather sinister entry "Staatlosen" for his nationality.
The other is for the "Protektorat Bohmen u. Mahren", or the Czech republic, both books have wartime and post war entries ( the Ukranian one has quite a few hand written entries in Cyrillic script), so were still used as an official form of identification years later.
It's also interesting that the wartime Czech book has not one single swastika in it at all..perhaps to give the impression that they still had a modicum of freedom perhaps..(but that illusion would have been shattered as soon as they left the house of course).
I like them personally, they are interesting examples of social history.
          All the best,
          Patrick.

                        Thanks Sebastian,

Photographs were very interesting, The Italian chap looks like a 1930's Italian opera singer!

The one I have purchased is from a guy from Poland, but has very few entries.

                        best regards,

Thanks David for sharing the pictures,

It's an interesting document and the old man must have a few stories to tell about his life!

                          Thanks again,

                            arbeitsbuch

                            Hello Andrew,

Thanks, yes it is nice when talking towards such a person , i can assure you that times where not that good over there and altough he has no hate against the German's it certainly was not one of the best periods in his life .

I have from this man also his so called " Vorlaufiges Fremdenpass " and it is nice to know of a period out of his life , i foten wonder how the selection was made to get these persons ( most did go as volunteers but im sure this one not => the Germans did catch him after he did run away and tried to hide here in Belgium )

It is wel worth to have such a document in your collection .

                            Greetings,

                              He looks not too happy.

Can someone help me translate a little of this? I'm not too good with script. Looks like his name is Walensky Lewaudowski or something like that.
