SS Hundefuhrer and Bandenkampf Veteran...

[Hundestaffel]

Attached are two scans (front and back) of one piece from a superb SS Hundefuhrer grouping I was recently able to obtain. While there is (unfortunately) no Soldbuch or Wehrpass in the grouping, there are (along with a fistful of family papers) some fantastic papers associated with the Hundefuhrer career of SS Oberscharfuhrer Theodor Opitz. Judging by the positions held and units served with (detailed on the reverse of this document), Opitz was indeed a respected and capable (and no doubt feared) SS Hundefuhrer.

At the moment, I have not begun to research Opitz, but plan to do so over the next few months (if / when I can find the time).

He was training men and dogs for the unit, and active in the field.

I see that the name changed in March 1943 into : HSSPF Russland-Mitte und Weißruthenien.

Very interesting document.....it does say he on 28.6.1942 because of his knowledge of"canine characteristics" he transferred from the Wehrmacht to the SS with the Personalstab Reichsführer SS!?

Also transferred on 23.7.1943 as training leader with SS Diensthundabteilung Rußland-Mitte.
