    Soldbuch with 7 awards

Soldbuch belonging to Oberfeldwebel Werner Schmidt of the 221 Sicherungs Division. He saw the war from beginning to the end. Soldbuch barely hanging together. From Poland, France, Russia and the Oder, he saw alot I am sure. Possibly also war crimes in the East, especially when operating with Polizei Batl. 309.

Nice Soldbuch, Lee. I especially like that photo... It's not exactly easy to find Soldbücher with portrait photos that were taken in the field. I prefer these over the standard studio portraits because they tend to show more of the soldier's uniform and also awards (if any).

                    Good score. Congrats.

                    Rob

Looks like Reservelazarett Stolp (Pomerania). Now Slupsk, Poland.

Thanks! How about the unit stamp for the last paygrade?

Can not make the stamp out except: Panz.Jäg.Abt. 2x5?

Likewise the unit stamp over his photo, however it does appear to end 171. According to Lexikon der Wehrmacht:

                          http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...eg/AR221-R.htm
                          http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...1SichDiv-R.htm
                          http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...391SichDiv.htm

Gren.Ers.Btl. 171 provided replacements for the Division Staff for 391 Sicherungs Div. z.b.V.

The link above for Art.Abt. 391 goes to the wrong place and refers to the unit reforming in 1945.

                          Artillerie Abteilung 391

Formed August 1944 from I/Artillerie Regiment 221 of the 221 Sicherungs Division; later became I/Festungs Artillerie Regiment 1320.
Under: 391 Sicherungs Division: Heeresgruppe Mitte (Weichsel)

                          Festungs Artillerie Regiment 1320

Formed February 1945 in WK III; initially only Staff, then Artillerie Abteilung 391 (391 Sicherungs Division) as I. and Festungs Artillerie Abteilung 849 as II. Abteilung.
Under: Army Troops: 9. Armee an der Oder

Are there other stamps between August until hospitalisation anywhere in the Soldbuch?

                          /Ian

Nothing else. A security check 9/44. With 1/221 art rgt stamp. The red stamp on the photo is also used on this security check and one on 12/43.

His last home leave was 3/44. The last equipment issue was with 1/221 art rgt. But the corner with the signature and date is torn off.
