    New Steuermannsschein

    Here's a few quick pics of my new Steuermannsschein.

    These guys are hard to find, if you see one floating about please let me know.

    This late-issue license is interesting in that it has the line that says that the license bearer is authorized to wear the Steuermann badge crossed out, never seen that before.

      Rob, I agree with you. Many interesting thread are unread or no one replies.

      Here are my Steuermannscheine....Don't know why the Abzeichen is crossed out...need to take a closer look....

          I have four or five of these documents but I am not at home to provide any information at the moment.

          I find it odd to qualify for a Steuermannsschein only not to be entitled for the badge!
          So, is it dependant on what type of boat he was qualified on ?

            All are qualified for "Sturmboote" (on river Elbe, river Weichsel and river Ottawa). Only the Ottawa Steuermann is not allowed/entitled for the badge - the two orthers are allowed. Strange.

              Interesting question...this could become a nice thread...

                The first two from 1937 and 1940 bear no entry for the entitlement for the Steuermannsabzeichen or what class of boat the holder has qualified for.

                The first for River Oder and second for the River Inn (Switzerland?).

                  The third from 1943 does give entitlement to the award also the class of boat for the River Trave.

                      It doesn't answer Rob's question unfortunately.....I have a couple more somewhere but I am sure they are the same class of boat...

                      I am sure I have seen an article or order regarding classes of boat....that will be interesting trying to find it!
