Quickly before I go into a meeting:
Looks like he served with the same unit throught out the war which changed designation:
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...hwer/AA729.htm
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...hwer/AA637.htm
He would appear to have served with the Stab,Nachrichten Zug, Artillerie Abteilung XXX.
Awards:
19.4.1942 War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords
15.8.1942 Russian Front Medal

Thanks Ian already for your input :-)!!!! I knew I could count on you
As I have severe difficulties to read Lexikon, I am getting flipped from all information on it.....sorry!
I am just curious if this would be an interesting unit where he served and if he did see front battle.
If you or anybody else could answer my questions raised, that would be greaT!!!
Cheers

Basically, schwere Artillerie Abteilung 729 was formed 1.11.1939 as an independant Army Troops unit with 3 Batteries of Czech 10.5 cm cannons. On 11.4.1940 1 Battery and the Abteilung Staff formed schwere Artillerie Abteilung 637.
schwere Artillerie Abteilung 637 was formed on 11.4.1940 with 3 Batteries of 21-cm morters as an independant Army Troops unit under OKH Reserve. From 19.3.1941 under Heeresgruppe D.
From 22.6.1941 the Abteilung came under I. Armeekorps:
19.7.1941 under XXVI. Armeekorps
29.9.1941 under 4 Armee
24.12.1941 under 4 Panzerarmee
25.6.1942 under 3 Panzerarmee
July 1943 under XXXXVII Panzerkorps
December 1943 and January 1944 under LVI Panzerkorps
8.4.1944 under LVI Panzerkorps
Replacement unit Atzillerie Ersatz Abteilung 38
You will need to check what each Krops was doing to get a picture of what his units were up to.

Can some one explain what Stabsbatterie means?
And what would the Luftwaffe role in this?
