Nice document. Nice touch for me, living in the Netherlands, that he served with Kampfgeschwader 2, operating from Dutch airfields at the time. He was medically examined in Amsterdam in September 1944.

Can possibly help out with reading fragments. Just say what you want to know.

      Cheers,

      Hans

Thanks for the help. Any additional information you can provide would be great. For example, what is on page 3? What were his previous units he was assigned to? Was he hospitalized or just had an examination? Thanks!

I originally posted this half way through your post but thought I would bring it down here...

Not sure if you have finished posting yet but initially you have a Soldbuch to a trained air gunner.....after training he was transferred to the Reserve Training Group of Kampfgeschwader 2.....here he is transferred Fallschirmschule IV and subsequently a Fallschirmjäger Regiment (3?).

At this time of the war it was not uncommon for aircrew to be transferred to other units simply due to lack of aircraft and fuel.

I take it you would like each page translated?

          /Ian

Oops...sorry I must have pressed close by mistake!!!!

Page 3. The people who vouch for the authenticity of corrections made at other pages in the Soldbuch. Such as the promotion to Gefreiter on page 1, for which a Lt. u. Kp.Fhr. [= Lieutenant & Company Leader] of 6./F.J.R. 3 signed on 20.12.1944

His previous units are shown on page 4. As the Soldbuch was begun in May 1943, we may assume that his first posting was indeed from 20.4.1943-07.05.1943 to Flugplatzkommando A 20/VII Memmingen.

The medical examinations were just to see if he was able to fly (a necessitiy, I think, for a Fallschirmjäger). He was obviously "wehrfliegertauglich" (fit to fly), "tauglich als Fallschirmschütze" (fit as parachute infantryman) [22.1.1943] and "sprungtauglich" (fit to jump) [8.9.1944].

I hope this helps a bit.

            Cheers,

            Hans

The only pages I did not scan are the ones with no writing on them. I have an example of both a Luftwaffe and Heeres Soldbuch. From what I can tell, the only differences are on pages 6-7 (differences in equipment issued), pages 18-19 are completely different in the two Soldbuchs, and page 22 is different in each Soldbuch. Othere than this, there are only minor differences between the two.
