Hello,
Im finally able to give a complete overvieuw from the Luftschutz military career from Herrn Arthur Gelbrich ( see also previous posts regarding the Luftschutz ) .
This is a almost not researched area but can sometimes be very rewarding with a little research and can have nice suprises.
Arthur was born on 05.07.1899 at Wünschelburg ( near Breslau ) and he was attached to the Luftschutz service from 10.07.1937 as a II.Anwarter in Halberstadt .
His service can be traced as following regarding the Luftschutz Dienstbuch and his wehrpass .
he was trained in the Luftschutz from 10.07.1937 until the POlisch campaign took a advance , his sole decoration he earned during this period was the SA sportsbadge in Bornze.
from 01.09.1939 towards 20.09.1942 he was attached to the Luftschutz warndienst ( alert service ) in Halberstadt and he was promoted towards I.Anwarter ( = rank of Zugfuhrer or in more known language the rank of Leutnant ) on 01.09.1940 .
attending this service he must have been very dedicated because he received his first actual award , the Luftschutz award 2 nd. class
from the period 21.09.1942 towards 17.05.1944 he was commanded towards the more endagered city of Lubeck and was responsable as the leader of the Luftschutz warning service + received some additional training , this was a time where he received a second promtion , namely to Oberzugfuhrer ( = rank of Oberleutnant ) on the date of 01.03.1943 .
then he was send towards a course from 18.05.1944 until 31.05.1944 , he was send again to the LS alert service and took command again there from 01.06.1944 until 02.05.1945 where his services was ended as the LS command post was disbanded on that date : 02.05.1945 at Lubeck.
During this last period in wich the major German city's received heavy allied Bombings ( + the Reich became almost totaly destroyed ) he earned his most rare and his highest award , namely on 12.12.1944 the " Eisernen Ehrenschild des Luftgaue's XI " wich is a rarity on its own and at nearly the end of the Reich he received the War merit cross 2 nd class with swords on 15.04.1945 .
These services are underestimated and this persons suffered also heavely + had a very demanding and often dangerous job to do.
So little treasures can stil be found if a persons looks enough and has a little luck .
=> a picture of his award page is shown under another thread on this forum, Thanks for reading and greetings .
