LW Soldbücher Collectors- ID Disc Collectors Need Your HELP!

    Hi Guys,

I've discovered that there is a distinct lack of information about LW flying unit codes out there and would like to do something to remedy the situation; can all of you who have Soldbücher from LW flying units (JG, NJG, KG, StG, etc.) please help by posting the 'Erkennungsmarke' code numbers of the soldier and the unit he served in from them? We Erkennungsmarke collectors who are faced with discs stamped only with a bunch of numbers would REALLY appreciate your help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Matt

I know these numbers do exist in a list, however many people keep them close to their chest to avoid "fakers" making these as well!!!

I personally do not have a list.

Yeah, I thought that might be the reason for the lack of replies. Honestly, I don't see how exactly posting information or a list any different than the countless discussions about flaws in fakes and characteristics of originals when it comes to giving fakers information. I actually think that pointing out flaws is far more detremental because it helps those who create the forgeries improve them- however, we can't exactly stop discussing those or there's no real point to any of this, yes?

People have lists of 3-letter maker codes (Fertigungskennzeichen), LDO numbers and so on and that doesn't make the fakes any better does it?

Besides, just because a code number matching a unit on a list doesn't make a disc is real- and no one should ever think so. Only if a unit designation is completely wrong is it logical to make any kind of authenticity judgement about a disc, i.e., if it's wrong it can't be real. And with the huge number of variations there were, other characteristics must be taken into account anyway. A unit existing is only the most minor piece of evidence...

          Hey Matt,

I can understand both Ian and your approaches, but agree with Ian's response in that it will only detriment our collecting interests further by allowing more access to information that helps keep us on track in terms of authentic/fake.

We both know where to get this information if it is really necessary.

Actually Chris, no we don't. Some of the guys here have lists of Fallschirmjäger unit codes, but no one seems to have one of Luftwaffe flying units- which is why I asked about it.
