Nice group to an uncommon unit

I've just picked up this nice grouping to an Unteroffizier in a Pionier-Schären batallion based in North Norway throughout the war. You could think of these units as the army's navy in a way, operating various boats of up to (AFAIK) Fahrprähm size (a type of shallow draught landing boat).

EKII, doc for mine clearance work during the summer of '45.

Bilingual pass (it's German on the other side) stating that the holder was allowed to move along a particular stretch of road (near Narvik and the fleet anchorage of Boden) but was not to go on private property, it also states that he's under the protection of the Norwegian authorities.

Another pass confirming the individual was part of a mine clearing detail.

Wehrpass, Pionier Schären Btl. 'Norwegen' consisted of 8 kompanien which in 1945 was devided into batallions 761 and 762.

Training, he started out as a driver with the 199 ID.Note the reference to page 35.

His active service, almost 5 years in the same part of North Norway. Note the mine clearance duties has been added as active service.

Now, perhaps the most interesting page of all. I'm not too sure what to make out of this. I think it's training as a crewman for attack\assault boats? Is that "Greifsbootsbesatzingen" ??? and A.Pi.Fp, perhaps artillerie pionier fahrprähm??
And the last entry, Pi.Steuermannschein IID? is that the helmsmans badge?

There were several other pieces with the grouping, even his birth certificate and a life insurance policy! all in all a nice lot, picked up quite cheaply.....and at about 10% of the price being asked for a similar grouping by one of the major dealers. (albeit with a lappland shield doc but not as comprehensive as this one and not as unusual a unit as this).

Very interesting quite illegal EK2 bestowal loooooong after the war ended--not even disguised by backdating!

Makes you wonder what they thought the "future" was going to bring, doesn't it?

            Quite interesting postwar EKII's certificate.

I am sending copies of my 1./Pi.Schären-Btl.762 Soldbuch. He was belonging to a French/Alsatian René GSTALTER. "René" became "Renatus". He was promoted on the 01.06.45.

Yeah they seem to have forgotten the war was over up in Norway, I have a KVKII m\S to a LW NCO also awarded post-May '45 and i know of wound badges as well as the Lappland shields of course.

AFAIK, all the post-May EKII were in connection with the rather dangerous job of mine clearing. Quite a few of these guys ended up being killed or injured.

                    Very nice and very interesting!
Did you get it from Weitze in Hamburg?
If not, then he has one similar for you.

IMHO, that grouping is way over priced.

Here is the Soldbuch to Gefreiter Wilhelm Siebert. He was also with Pionier Schären Btl. Norwegen and trained at the Pionier Landungs Lehr und Ersatz Regiment in Fredericia, Dänemark. He later served with 1. Kompanie Stellvetretende Armee Kommando “Sperrgruppe ??????”.

Gefreiter Siebert. Interestingly enough - his Soldbuch has two covers. The old cover was so worn out that the Soldbuch gave given a new cover, but instead of removing the old cover and stapling the foto onto the new cover, the new cover was wrapped around the old one.

                            Hi Simon

Nice collection , do you think he was used for mine clear after the War hence the late award of the EK? Or just a late entry??
