    SS Dirlewanger Dog Tag

    Hey Guys,

Need opinions on this Dog Tag, I think it's bad, but want to be sure.

    Thanks.

    Hello

The dogtag is in german ebay.

I had a closer look at it, but I can`t say with 100% that it is a good one.
Something make me nervous, but I don`t know what...

I think these dogtag will be sold for 100 Euros and more in german ebay.

There is a german saying: "Avidity is eating brain" (Gier frißt Hirn)

    Best regards, Fronti

I'm still not a believer in these tags. Nothing makes sense about them. ,,even the Halbe story has been put in doubt by some historians.. Anyway, I'm just a nut. ,,,you guys love them,,great, thats all that matters....

              Hello

These Dirlewanger dogtags doesn't came from Halbe itself. They came from Halbe pocket from the little hills in the southeast of the town Hermsdorf, called Dirlewanger-hill.

              Best regards, Fronti

                My concerns with the tag are;

There is very little information on the tag, what could the appropriate authorities garner solely from the "SS Dirlewanger 564"?? Should there not be more detailed information on the tag? (BTW, I know nothing about German dog tags)

Why does the tag have only two perforated cuts? Is this acceptable on original Identity Disks??

Why is there no indication that this is a Penal Unit??

I want to believe this is real, as I'm very interested in this unit, but other than "it comes from Halbe" I have not read any view points that look at the merits of the piece, as opposed to just the story.

One more question, what does the 564 represent?

                            Hello

                            It is the personal/dogtag number...

These dogtag is the 564th dogtag, handed out to a dirlewanger member. (For the 564th Dirlewanger soldier, who needet a new dogtag...)

                            Best regards, Fronti

                              PAB collector..,,,
Here are some legitimate questions for this tag..

                              1. Halbe , Halbe pocket, Hermsdorf,,, none have been confirmed slaughter of the D. men. What Soviet unit did this?

                              2. Incorrect nomenclature. The unit has had 8 official titles,,none are list as 'SS-Dirlewanger'.

                              3. The stamp is a one piece stamp. This would not last long being a one piece like that. Breakage would have been a problem, especially stamping this many tags. What were a dozen stamps made and given out to the quartermaster? Imagine how hard it would have been to stamp also!

                              4. The amount of these tags. This type tag would be given out as a replacement tag. IF you lost your original tag you would be issued a tag to the unit you were currently in. Well, These tags have shown up with roll numbers 564 all the way to 5772.. Did they really expect that many men to lose their tags?! , and who would have stamped all those tags so late in the war with the Soviets breathing down their necks? with a bounty on their heads who would have wanted one?

                              5. The 'Trennschlitzen',,the breakage slots.. German standard was 3. Late war as well as anytime during the war these were plentiful. In fact to this day you can still dig up many unused blank tags and all with 3 trennschlitzen . Why something special for these men? who, what, and where, and most of all why were they done.

They do look cool,,,Those that have them love them,,others do indeed walk away..
