                S P E C T A C U L A R But then I already told you that

I am so glad that this went to a good home. The album you were able to get with it is killer, too. It's not often Hetzer crew Soldbücher 'and' photo albums become available! I think I sent you scans of those Hetzer photos that were auctioned off on eBay 3 or 4 years ago that were taken the very same day and location as some of the ones in your album.

Great score... looking forward to seeing some more

In August of 1944, the 376 Infanterie-Division was destroyed while fighting under the command of Heeresgruppe Südukraine. The remnants of the division were sent to the 15. and 76.Infanterie-Divisions. I do not know which Division this man's unit, the 1.(self propelled, in this case Sturmgeschütz) Panzerjäger-Kompanie/Panzerjäger-Abteilung 376 - was sent to, but in November/December of 1944 the 76.I.D. was under command of the 6. Armee, Heeresgruppe Süd fighting in Hungary, and the 16.I.D. was under 8. Armee, Heeresgruppe Süd, also in (northern) Hungary. As of late December 1944/early January both Divisions were in Slovakia, under command of the 8.Armee.

According to lexicon.de, in October of 1944 SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment "Schill" was stationed at SS-Panzergrenadier Schule Kienschalg (just south of Prag). I believe it operated as an independent Kampfgruppe in the same general area as both of the above-mentioned divisions (Hungary and Slovakia) around the same time frame, until it was absorbed by the 32.SS-Grenadier-Division "30.Januar" in Feb. 1945.

Could it be that this man's unit, the self-propelled Sturmgeschütz Kompanie of Panzerjäger-Abteilung 1376, was attached/subordinate to SS-Panzergrenadier-Rgt. "Schill" at the time the Soldbuch was issued? It was issued through his unit, then stamped on page 15 by the unit they were subordinate to?

                    FPN 29143:

                    (10.2.1943-23.8.1943) Stab Panzerjager-Abteilung 376,

                    dann Stab 1. Radfahr-Schwadron u. 2.-3. Kompanie
                    Panzerjager-Abteilung 376,

                    (10.11.1944-Kriegsende) 15.1.1945 gestrichen.

As Rob said, it is a security check so probably he was under command of SS Regiment Schill at that time so it was this unit who check documents and gave validity to them.

By the way, what a wonderfull piece, one that clear reflects the change of requisits to receive the PABiS late in the war.

Can you show us photos from his album?

                      Thanks

                      Angel

Sorry, I forget it, take a look at the Panzerkampfabzeichen entry, the unit awarding it was the SS Regiment Schill so no doubt he fought attached to this unit if not how it could awarded the medal???????
