    KIA Panzerjeager Wehrpass

Armin Bauer was born 13-10-1919 in Neundorf.
In 1937, when he was around 18 years old his mother died.
He was in the Hitler Jugend where he got the HJ Ehrenzeichen.
He got drafted into the army at 20 July 1939, at Dresden III.
The picture used in his Wehrpass was made in his hometown near Dresden, Radebeul.
A spare one with the makers stamp on the back got put into the Wehrpass´s cover.

He already had some papers from his civilian life (can anyone help me on that?) that were
noted into the Wehrpass, including the Führerschein classes I, II and III.
He also got his HJ Ehrenzeichen and the Reichssportabzeichen im bronze noted into his Wehrpass.

He was send to 2th (schwere geschutz) kompanie of Artillerie-Ersatz-Abteilung 256.
That trainings unit was based in the Artillerie-Kaserne of the city Meißen.
That city is 25 km northwest from Dresden and about 15 km from his hometown.
He begun his training on 12 Januari 1940 (no idea about the time in between?).
On 12 February 1940 he transferred to Armee-kraftfahrpark 527 (whats that?).
He was trained on the k98k, 10cm cannon 18 (motorised), the LMG 34 and something else
which i cannon read (after the k98k, help?).
He also got his military driver licence for all three classes he already had in his civilian live,
but also the Halbketten (halftrack) and something else which i cannot read (help?).

He stayed with that unit untill 1 March 1940 when he got transferred to
Kw. Werkstatt zug 315 which was part of the 72. Infanterie-Division.
Later on in 1940, the unit got renamed to Kw. Werkstatt kompanie 172.
With this unit he went trough Luxemburg, Belgium, North-France.
After these battles he was promoted to Gefreiter.
On 28 September 1940 he got the Verdienstkreuz second klass with swords.
The Division stayed as security unit in France and at the coast untill 18 Januari 1941.

On 19 Januari 1941 he started training Romanian troops for about 2 months.
Then they marched trough Bulgaria and fought in the Balkan battles.
After that they wend back to Romania to train the Romanian troops some more.
On 22 June 1941 they started their campaign in the Soviet Union.

On 1 Mai 1942 he got promoted to Obergefreiter.
On 23 July 1942 he got his eastfront medal.
He participated in the Krim battle and on 23 Augustus 1942 got his Krim arm-shield.
The battle notes in the Wehrpass continue till 26.9.1942.
Then there is nothing for a while, but ends with the words that he fought with the 72. in the
    Soviet union untill his death.

On 6 Februari 1943 he got the Romanian medal: "Kreuzzug gegen den Kommunismus".
On 15 Mai 1943 he got the Kraftfahr abzeichen in Bronze.
And on 26 June 1943 he got the Kraftfahr abzeichen in Silver.

On 17 July 1943 he transferred to the 1st Kompanie, Panzerjäger abteilung 72.
With that unit he got surrounded in the Korsum pocket (Tscherkassy pocket).
After the outbreak from that pocket they re-grouped and he got transferred to the 2th
kompanie on 13 Mai 1944. In that Kompanie he was promoted to Unteroffizier on 1 Augustus 1944.
That is one day before his death, on 2 Augustus 1944, around that time the Soviets attacked the Division at
the Baranow bridgehead and the Division suffered many casualties.

On 16 Oktober 1944 his dad, Erich Bauer, received the following letter with Wehrpass
    from the Wehrmeldeamt Dreseden III.

Also included in the lot was this old document about the family Bauer and their family-weapon (sign):

A group photo, including the Armin´s Ostfront ribbon and Kraftfahr abzeichen im silber:

Also in the grouping was this ordenspange, but i think the seller mixed up something and i think it belongs to the Luftwaffe pilot Papperitz:

          Thanks guys!
This is the first Wehrpass on which i actually have spend bigger money.

I wonder if he was in the Stug kompanie of that Pz.Jg. Abteilung ?
Does anyone know where i can check that?

I really like the picture where he wears the wrap with metal eagle and panzer collar tabs
But whats up with the branch color piping on the shoulderboards compared to the collar tabs?!

            Hello Rick,

            Nice wehrpass!
I'am not sure but I think that a Armee-kraftfahrpark is something like a assembly area for army vehicles (trucks ea).

            Regards,
            Floris

Nice Wehrpass. Floris is correct and that's probably where he got his "extra" drivers training. The word after 98k on page 20 is Schwer.

So he had training with a Heavy cannon.. and tracked vehicles..
But did he actualy drove on/in a Stug, armed RSO or Marder I ?
I hope i can find out.. does anyone know where i can search?
                  (The 72. Pz.Jg. abt. had Marder I´s).

I´m gonna buy the book "Die 72. Infanterie-Division, 1939 - 1945" soon, maybe there is some info in there.
I´m also running trough my book about the Korsum/Tscherkassy pocket but till now not much info..
