Help with page 21 in a Wehrpass

I have a Wehrpass to a man who was involved in the Russian campaign (Demjansk). He was shot, and wounded multiple times. He received the black wound badge and an IAB.

On page 21 there is "Ausgebildet als Schreiber (=writer) auf Kompanie-Schreibstube " (I know this means "trained as company writer), but what would he actually have done during the war? Was he a "combat soldier?"

Just trying to find out more information.

Any ideas?... I just had an idea (correct me if I am wrong), could "kompanie writer" (still don't know what it is ) be just one of his jobs?

On page 21 was only marked that he was trained ad a company writer. This does not mean that he really did this job every day.

I think that company writer was his normal duty, but the company headquarter wasn´t so far of the frontline usually. So it was not uncommon that staff personal participated in combat, especially as ad hoc units, when enemy forces broke through the lines. This would match with Demjanks, there was some fierce fighthing going on!!!!
His normal duty was to keep up with the the company paperwork (Papierkrieg )
For example: holiday records, death notes, recording close combat days for the IAB .......

in your words you did express the possible situation of the company writer much better than I could describe it with my humble English...

What about the IAB? How do you think he recieved that award?

As I understand fighting was very close-quarters in Demjansk. I read an article about how sometimes russians would "pop" out of the snow and attack German HQ's. The Germans would of be surprised, and everybody would get caught up in the fighting (I guess even writers) Is this correct?

What I mean is, under what circumstances do you think he would have been awarded the IAB? (under the assumption that he was mainly at HQ?)
