    2010 SOS show and documents?

Question for our document/personal ausweis collectors.

Has anyone been to the SOS show in the past and if so how is the selection of paperwork i.e. WP, SB or documents in general??

A friend and I are thinking of making the trip in Feb. and was curious as to others thoughts.

    Thanks

    Jeremy

        Jeremy,

there are over 1,600 tables to choose from at the SOS and if you are there on the weekend, a gun show with about 1,000 tables is next door. There is a lot of paperwork to be found and a lot of people who are specialized in it.

You will find something and I have always found something every year since I have been there (I have only missed one SOS in all these years!).

Many of my friends here in Germany are flying over just to go to the show!

If you have the time, I would also highly recommend the Fort Knox museum which is not that far away.

        Good hunting!

          Thanks Jim,

It definately sounds like a worthwhile trip, and the Fort Knox Museum appears worthwhile as well. Not to mention the possibility of getting some sips of Bourbon.

Although I've collected for over 20+ years I haven't been to any shows for quite a few years owing to the advent of the internet. Will be good to be "on the ground" again talking to dealers/collectors.

          Thanks again.

            Jeremy,

I am as big of a fan of the internet, on-line forums, and websites as anyone on the planet.

But you just cannot beat the SOS for quantity -- and so many of the items for sale there will never appear on the internet. To be a serious collector, you really have to do both and it is well worth the time and expense.

Plus, meeting up with other collectors and talking to people who were only a name on the forum is quite enjoyable as well.

            See you there!

              Thanks Mike,

I definately agree and I'm looking forward to all of the above.

              See you there.

Jeremy, I agree with Mike, you have to be able to touch and feel the items (especially in cloth) and the SOS allows you to see and check out items that are not commonly seen. The internet is too one-dimensional and there are unfortunately a lot of black sheep out there!

                  Thanks Jim,

As mentioned I'm not in disagreement with your statements and did "haunt" the shows years ago. Having collected for 25 years my collections started long before the advent of the interenet. Regrettably most of the shows in my area have been thin to say the least on documentation.

I do hope there is a chance to meet a few of the forum members while there.

Again many thanks for your comments.

                  Cheers

Keep in mind that table space it at a premium, so dealers may not use table space to display everything they have, (especially if in thier mind it is not a 'premier' item) so be sure and ask, as many times there are additional items kept under the tables.

                      Hi Jerry,
I am thinking of going for the first time. But can only make the Saturday show...are all the dealers still there or do some pack up early? Thanks

                      Steve

                        ...

Saturday can be a bargain day -- I bought my last item at SOS last year at just before closing on Saturday. I was surprised it had remained at the dealer's table.

On the other hand, so much is snapped up on Thursday and Friday. I would really recommend you come earlier.

Mike, you are right and there is a lot of dealing going on on Wed. at the table set-up although not as much as in past years! You will find that a lot of people pack up completely on Saturday and leave in the afternoon even though the show still runs through Sunday but only for a few hours. On Sunday I have often really gotten some deals as well as Saturday. On Saturday a lot of people come over from the gun show and you sometimes see some very strange people but usually very nice. I once saw a young guy (maybe 25 or so) wearing an original SS jacket with originally sewn insignia and long dirty hair- a friend of mine from Germany had a hard time not laughing but you do see some unusual things on occasion at such a large show.
