Hello!
I think the most of You have seen this Soldbuch and the Wehrpass of a Leutnant infantry. It was in an online-auction a few days ago.
After a hard fight with my "secretary of finances" an a harder fight with the seller (I got a discount), I have bought the documents.
Although the Soldbuch is a "Zweitschrift", it has seen many action, especially a few (24 altogether) close combat days. Three of the close combat days listed in the Soldbuch were fought in the "Festung Breslau", the "Stalingrad an der Oder". The siege of Breslau by the Red Army lasted nearly three months, Breslau surrendered on the 6th of May 1945, after the fall of Berlin.
The other close combat dayse where fought during the german siege of Leningrad. What an "analogy" for Leutnant Scheffler...
Scheffler served nearly the whole war with Infantry- / Grenadier-Regiment 2 of the 11th Infantry-Division in the Northern part of the Eastern Front.
I think he was at a training to become an officer while the Red Army attacked the area of Breslau and so he had no chance to go back to his 11th Division and became part of the garrison of Breslau.
Leutnant Scheffler earned the following awards:
Infantry Assault Badge in Silver
Iron Cross 2nd Class
Iron Cross 1st Class
Wound Badge in Silver
Close Combat Clasp in Bronce
Wound Badge in Gold
I would like to show You the documents - and I have a few questions:
1) Why did Scheffler not earn the Eastmedal?
2) Why did Scheffler not earn the Wound Badge in Black?
I hope You like the Soldbuch and the Wehrpass of this brave soldier.
