Well the hard to see hospital entry (3) says he is fit for discharge on 29.19.1940....couldn't make out too clearly from page 1, however I do not see any entries fro 1941 and 1942....indicating to me that he was not in the Wehrmacht!

    Unless you can see some?

From 1943 he appears to be with the Army Rations Office in Reutlingen (Heeresverpflegungsamt).

    /Ian

On the driving license, FP Nr. correspond with:

10214 - Stab II Kraftwagen Transport Abteilung 616
      03050 - 8 Kompanie, Kraftwagen Transposrt Abteilung 616

Also the promotion you referred to as being 1941 appears to be 1.12.1940.....this is not overstamped/authorised probably indicating also that he had left the Army......

In fact I have just double checked the entry and it is actually stamped by Heeresverpflegungsamt Reutlingen...this appears to have been entered when he rejoined the Army....is there a corresponding entry on page 3?
Technically this should be the date the entry was made and not the actually promotion date!

      /Ian

        Hi Ian,

You are right, I made a mistake about the promotion dates. However, he was promoted in December so therefore he would have already been discharged?

There are some entries are his discharge:
        1. Clothing issues on 4/11/41 after returns made 12/11/40 by the looks of it.
        2. The smoking rations in 1942
        3. Cholera jab in 1944
        4. Dental check 1944
        5. Security checks in both 1943 and 1944.
        5. Pistol entry 1944
        6. Leave in May 1943 and 1944

Yes, we accounted for 1943 onwards entries as he was at the Rations Office in Reutlingen, the promotion entries were also made by that unit, however according to the book he was discharged October 1940....I am sure that the entries for promotion to Uffz. were made after he rejoined.

            1. Clothing issues on 4/11/41 after returns made 12/11/40 by the looks of it.
That could be it then......he was discharged or received his pay in October, handed his kit in on 12.11.1940 and rejoined 1 year later!

Sometimes there is an entry to say that he rejoined the Army... I know I have a couple like this but they were not WWI Soldiers but young soldiers that had been wounded and discharged....only to be called up in 1944 when things were a bit stickier!

            /Ian
