        Hi Ian,

        I have to agree- it's a reproduction.

Well I guess the crooks have ruined another hobby for me. I quit medals because of this, and now they have invaded this realm. I haven't bought a tag in over a year. I think I'll go back to guns, at least I don't think they can fake them yet.

Just don't be obsessed with obtaining fancy units. Others are rarely faked. If the only things you really wanted were the SS units and special units, like HG or Prinz Eugan than yes, you should do a bit of research before dropping $80 -$100 on a tag. I think you will often find your generic infantry unit did just as much fighting and interesting things throughout the war as many of these hard sought after units.

Crooks only ruin the hobby if you let them!

I agree with CCS. , except IMHO any ORIGINAL SS tag for under $100 is a GREAT price.. I saw my first repro SS tag in 1978..I'm sure they have been faking them a lot longer.. , G.

Really all one has to do to enjoy collecting Erkennungsmarken Max is to simply stay away from SS ones- at least until you're fairly knowledgeble. I've been collecting them for over 3 years and only bought my first SS discs 4 months ago- and even then I asked for a few opinions before I committed to the purchase. Besides, you can get 5 or 6 Heer or Luftwaffe discs for the price of an SS disc and there are far more unit types and histories to discover.

Well that's just it,I don't collect anything but SS tags. I don't care for the other units. I have 2 books 1 in German & the other a small book. It's a Catch 22 deal I guess. Oh well, onward & upward. Max.

Max you can go quantity or you can go SS . Sometimes you will have a dry year either because they are priced sky high or because everything around is bogus. You just have to make up for it this year and pull out 2 or 3 now that you got the money saved up from not buying last year. , G.

Thought I would add this to this thread:

A friend asked me to post his half-P.E. disc for him here. What do you guys think of it?

He is also willing to trade this half-disc for a good Heer tag. If you are interested, just send me a PM.

The books are: A 22 page book on tags by Michael & Ian Burroughs & the large book by Jean Hoidal. I have a Herr tag that your friend might be interested in, 3/Inf.Ers. Btl. 109. MN 470, BG A. Max.

JMHO I do not like the 3rd tag shown..A little too busy for my liking..On iffy tags like this ultimately it is only the buyer that must be satisfied.. , G.
