    Interesting Soldbuch

    Hi guys,

Here is a Soldbuch out of my collecting of a soldier who went thru quite a bit.
    He was awarded:

    Anschlussmedaille october 1st (Sudetenland)
    IC 2nd class
    IC 1st class
    BWB
    SWB
    GWB
    IAB

Unfortunately the only award doc that was preserved is the one for the GWB.

I do have a question though. There is a page that has SS stamps of the SS (SS Unterführerschule Arnheim) could it be that the soldier was paid there? What other reason could it be that there are stamps of the SS in this army Soldbuch?

    Any comments appreciated.

    Heli

Can you scan Page's 4 and 17. They would probably help answer your question.

                        Heli,

Very interesting and well filled in Soldbuch, to which I can not provide any answers at the moment.

Initially of course, with no signature or overstamping on the Lichtbild there is no guarantee that it is the actual Soldbuch holder.

His main unit Inf./Gren.Rgt. 434 was in the east to so no connection to Arhnem there. The other units Gren.Rgt. 1042 was in Normandy and 732 in Küstrin after being reformed March 1945!......so even looking at his replacement units initially I can not see any connection to Arnhem!

Could you show a larger scan of the entries on page 14? Also, was he hospitalised there? A scan of pages 12-13 would help......failing that....any entry dated September 1944!

                        Cheers!
                        Ian

Incidentally the signature appears to be SS Untersturmführer Rudolf Eckardt. He was with the Unterführerschule Arnheim from June 1944 until the end of the year and killed in action 15.2.1945 as Kp.Chef 7/SS Pz.Gren.Rgt. 37. He is buried in Andilly, France.

Also the wound badge document is signed by

                              Hauptmann Karl-Heinz Kloppenburg, II./Grenadier-Regiment 434
                              Deutsches Kreuz in Gold 7.9.1944
