    Soldbuch- Question on unit id

This man served in various units in the 93 Infantry Division, winning 5 awards. He received the wound badge but not one entry on the hospital page.

I did a close up on page 4 to help indentify the last 2 units. I think maybe sturm kp 193 and gren. begliot kp 193. There is a stamp for feld gd. kp. 193.

He finished the war with pz jag komp 1193 and pz jagd kp 1193. Would that be a unit that used hand held anti tank wepons?

                    Hi Lee,

Not exactly sure what Pz.Jagd units were but my thoughts were pretty much the same as Pz.Jäg. (Sfl) i.e. with heavy self propelled weapons.

One thing for sure, all those units did belong to the 93 Inf.Div....even Inf.Rgt. 270!

Sturm and Gren.Begleit Kp. 193.....the latter being "Escort Company"

                    Nice book.....EK II for France

The wound badge could have been awarded by the company and no need to go to hospital....perhaps tended by the Company Aid Post? OR.. of course simply not entered.

Somewhere I have the Div. Kdr. Soldbuch tucked away

                    /Ian

This is really a nice soldbuch!

                      Maybe check this link: http://www.die-sturmartillerie.com/sb1193.HTM
Always interesting if one can compare two simmilar soldbücher.

                      It sais there:

Grenadier Begleit Kompanie 193 was infantry-support of Panzer Jagd Kompanie 1193 which was equipped with
                      Sturmgeschütze.
(He does not give his source for this information.)

Jagd.Pz.Kp.1193 is simply 2(Sfl)./Pz.Jäg.Abt.193, or the second (self propelled) Kompanie, Panzerjäger-Abteilung 193. From Oct.1944 onwards this was the official designation for the self-propelled Panzerjäger kompanie in a Panzerjäger-Abteilung in Infanterie and Volksgrenadier Divisions. Given that it was a Infantrie Division, this 2.Kompanie was more than likely equipped with StuG.IIIs or Hetzers.

Sadly, there isn't enough information contained within the Soldbuch to determine if he did in fact crew a vehicle. Based on the unit entries and the awards, my guess is he served in some sort of support role for the majority of his career, being thrown into combat as regular infantry in January 1945 when he finally received a combat assault badge after 5+ years of prior active duty service.

Despite being part of a Infantry/VGD Division (and I am sure some of the "experts" will disagree) vehicle crews in the self propelled Panzerjäger Kompanies should have received the GAB, not IAB.

I take it there's no mention anywhere of any Sonderbekleidung being issued? Was he issued a pistol, wrist watch, binoculars or flare pistol?
