Soldbuch, Kranken-Transport-Abteilung 601 - with black panzer wrap photo!

Hello all,

I am posting this for my good friend, Henner.

Here is a Soldbuch to a member of Kranken-Transport-Abteilung 601 with a photo that shows the soldier wearing a piped black Panzer wrap with what appears to be be field gray shoulder straps. Henner has asked me to post this because he would like to hear some of your ideas on why this man would be wearing a black Panzer wrap.

One theory is that because Kranken-Transport-Abteilungen were Armee level troops, he could have been assigned to a armored division, or a unit equipped with armored vehicle ambulances (SdKfz.251/08) hence the issue of the "Sonderbekleidung."

As you said they were under the command of an Armee (or Heeresgruppe) so they could be assigned to a Division. So (probably) he served in an Armoured Unit.

It is the first time I see someone of the Krankentransport wearing a Black Panzer Wrapper but I saw doctors who were assigned in Panzer Units wearing Black Panzer Wrappers so don't see anything wrong with it.
