    Soldbuch help

    Today this soldbuch arrived.
The soldbuch belonged to Unteroffizier Herbert Werner.
First thing that caught my eye was that his first Feldtruppenteil was Gren. Rgt. 1166. This unit was formed august 1944????
Werner joined the army on 04.02.1942 training with Inf. Ers. Batl.78 and went later on to the I.R. 77, Gren. Rgt. 77 and finaly Gren. Rgt. 1221 and was caught in the Ruhr pocket and surrenderd to the Allies April 1945.
Please let me hear your opinion.

I would say it was like this:
Your soldier joined Inf. Erst. Btl. 77 sometime in 1941, he was transfered
to Feld. Ers. Btl. 26 then to IR77 etc., all pretty normal.
When he joined Feld. Ers. Btl. 77 the clerk entered it on line C in section C
because the current unit of the soldier was also entered on line C in section B
(and he left two lines empty).

Later during the war the section for the units on page 4 and 17 became full so
the clerk used the free space on page 4 but crossed out all the other units. So
it was still clear which unit was the currently active one (in this case Gren. Rgt.
      1166).

He transfered to 1221 right after 1166 (but 1221 was listed on page 17 again
because by then there was no more room on page 4 or the new clerk decided
to list 1221 on page 17 again because it belonged there). Was Gren. Rgt.
1166 crossed out with the same pen which was used to write Stapskp. on
      page 17?

What I try to say is that I believe 1166 was entered there mainly because
the clerk did not want to waste all the free lines on page 4 while page
      17 was already full.

Maybe give us a few more scans?

        Ir 77

        Hello,

I have just missed this soldbuche last week

        http://infanterie-regiment77.org

        This soldbuch is particularly interreting for me because the man stayed few years in the regiment;
for me, as loocking at my other IR 77 documents
he was trained in the IER 78, then the Inf Rgt 77 9 Kpie
he was hurt (several times?!), then sent back to I.E.R 77
Went back to IR 77 may be 2 Kpie
(october 1942, inf regt were renamed Gren rgt)
then to FEB of the 26 ID (division of the 77), this unit help to rebuilt the destroyed III./Gren. rgt 77 in 1943
he went back to the 9./ Gren. rgt 77, the III./77 was partialy destoyed in Kowel (august 1944)
then he was sent to another Gren ausbildung rgt in september 1944, before joining the new created GREN RGT 1166.
with a glance to 77's chronic and other documents, It could have been like that .
More scans could permit a better assesment
        best regards
ps/ Definitly interested by this soldbuch if you sell it.
