It's certainly the best most complete MG Ski-Brigade Finnland grouping i've seen so far.

Nice Dietl signed KVK, the sturmabzeichen doc though is the most interesting to me. First one i've seen to the brigade and signed by Hans Steets

Amongst the larger formations yes but there are dozens of independent battalion or smaller sized units i've never seen any documents from at all.

another larger unit which you almost never see docs from is LW Feld Rgt.503, later Grenadier Brigade 503. The odd Lappland doc turns up but nothing from it's earlier days as a LW field unit.

That is right, I was refering to larger formations. Actually I think I have EK2 and Lappland shield docs from guy who served in LW Feld Rgt.503/Grenadier Brigade 503. I will check that when I get back home and send you a scan if you are interested.

Speaking of Dietl signed KVK2 docs, I have a very nice one that is a part of larger group. Not for a Ski Brigade member, but for a baker and it is dated 24.12.1942... I think he made the Christmass bread for Herr General and got KVK2 for it

That is an interesting point Nordfront.

A very good cook, baker, or butcher were worth there weight in KvK's on campaign and was someone units held onto. I have a Heer Soldbuch to a butcher who was a Feldwebel. He was from München and so made outstanding wursts of all kinds. He was with the 57th Division for most of his time in Russia and was transfered temporarily to another unit. With his Soldbuch is still a message from his old unit demanding his immediate return so the officers of his old unit were probably having wurst withdrawls. Unluckily for him he returned just in time to be trapped in the Cherkassy Pocket, but he made it out okay.

The second photo is interesting, behind him on the stairs looks to be an SD or Sipo officer. Not something you see too often from Norway.

                    That's an amazing grouping!

Am I the only one who's surprised by the date on which he was issued the award? Or was it quite common?

If you mean the Lappland shield doc. No this is quite normal. My example's dated July 12 1945. Stewy

                          Very nice grouping.

In particular I enjoy seeing the Lappland shield document, very nice.

Other than a very few which were backdated to the first week of May '45 all Lappland docs were awarded between July and from what i've seen so far, late October 1945. The vast majority of them being July-August.

Not as an SD\Sipo officer, though perhaps attached to Korps headquarters as liason officer.
