    Heer Truppenausweis from 1941

I picked this up recently with some other IDs. It is a Truppenausweis for a Heer administrative officer that was issued in 1941 and kept current through 1944. From what I understand, this type of document was used for personal ID before being replaced with the Soldbuch near the start of the war. I have seen a few of these documents with wartime dates, I think all have been for officers. Does anyone know what purpose this document served after 1939? I saw something that claimed these were used in wartime by General Staff officers but I feel that is likely in error.

Dr. Adam Deist was a at least "Heeres - Studiendirektor" - director of studies. He was teaching in a school of the Army.

The Truppenausweis was indeed replaced by the Soldbuch for those soldiers going to war and expected to be leaving Greater Germany. If you were not leaving the country and remaining in the homeland the Truppenausweis was kept as a forms of idnetification.
This is not to say the he also had a Soldbuch as I have few examples where both are clearly in use.
