    Late war Soldbuch

Just got this nice late war soldbuch, no medals and such but that doesn't matter. I need some help with it though.
It has a note attached on the inside of the cover, and there is a loose note in the back of the soldbuch, looks to be the address of someone.

    The questions i have:

    1. What does the note that is attached on the inside of the cover say?

    2. What do the 2 words above the soldiers name on page 1 mean? Russian? Polish?

    3. What was his last combat unit? I can only make out the 1458 number.

    4. On the page where his given equipment is listed, what units are mentioned? (so, what which units gave him his stuff?).
They look to be differend then the one's mentioned before, is that normal?

    5. At the weapons page (8a), its stated that he got a rifle, is it just a K98k or something else?

    6. He also got a bayonet and spade, but under all three is something writen, what is writen?

    7. On the second weapons page (8b), he got some special stuff, but i can't make out what it is, can anyone else?

    8. The loose note has 2 addresses on it, i can make out the first, but what does the second say?

A lot of questions, i hope someone can help me out

              1. "Bescheinigung (Bewijsstuk)
Der Jäger Schincke besitzt kein Lichtbild im Soldbuch.
              Grundt: .............

** Signed by the Hauptmann und Kompanie Chef **"

It mentions that he had no Photo inside.

              5. It was the model of the weapon, what model A3 means, I do not know.

              6. Date of receiving the Spade, Bayonet and weapon.

              7. To me it looks like some extra stuff for his Gasmask, I can make out 'Gasglasen' and some other starting with Gas..

              Hope it helps!

And thanks for the other input!

Anyone else that can help me out further?

                  2. That is his name in Russian, surname then forename. (Russian Alphabet http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/T.../alphabet.html)

                  3. Here is the layout of 158. (Feldausbildungs-)Division. As you can see units numbered 1316 and 1458 are part of this Division, however initially from the scan I can not make out what it is....can you provide a larger scan of that part of the page?

Formed March 1945 in Wehrkreis VIII (from training units of Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Regiment 528, Landesschützen Ausbildungs Bataillon I./8 and Nachrichten Ausbildungs Abteilung 8) for Army Group Centre.

                  Structure:

                  Jäger-(Feldausbildungs-) Regiment 1316 I.-II. Btl.
                  Grenadier-(Feldausbildungs-) Regiment 1317 I.-II.
                  Grenadier-(Feldausbildungs-) Regiment 1318 I.-II.
                  Artillerie-Regiment and Division units 1458.
In April 1945 the Division received the designation Infanterie Division. It eventually went into Russian captivity.

                  1945 April - XI Armeekorp - 1 Panzerarmee - Heeresgruppe Mitte - around Troppau

                  Replacement units: Wehrkreis VIII

                  4. What the guy was issued in the training and replacement depot did not necessarily mean he wanted to take it all to the front. Also some items were issued on a unit level anyway, so you could have exactly the same kit but just had to get it signed over to you at the new unit.

The units that issued him kit are:

                  1) Can't make it out but most probably Landesschützen Ausbildungs Bataillon I./8
                  2) GEAB 84 - Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbidlungs Bataillon 84 (Grenadier Replacement and Training Battalion 84)
                  3) M-Kp. G.E.u.A.Btl. 84 - Marsch Kompanie, Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbidlungs Bataillon 84 (Transfer Compamy...as above!)

                  8.
The address appears to be written by an ill or elderly man.....I can make out Konrad then possibly Breslau and Wernerstraße 30!

                  /Ian

                    6. Shows the date of issue as 24.12. and the date it was cancelled or handed in gestr. - gestreichen - cancelled/deleted......on 22.2.1945.

                    7. He was issued Klarscheiben - clear lenses/disc for gasmask, Gasplane - gas cape, Hautentgiftungsmittel - decontamination powder and tested this out in the gas chamber....Gasraumprobe!

                      Thanks allot Ian!
So after 22/23 Feb. 1945 he had no weapons anymore? thats strange.
What could he have done then?

Here is a bigger picture of the unit page:

I think I can add some information:

The reason why he had no photo in his Soldbuch was Materialmangel - lack/shortage of material (of photo material).

                        The both addresses # 8:

Paul Bensch, Breslau I, Reuschestrasse 64

                        Konrad Kemper, Breslau, Vorwerkstrasse 30

I am sure in a lot of cases the Soldbuch is not kept up to date with weapons etc. at such a late stage in the war.....I have examples of holder of the German Cross of Knight's Cross that did not have weapons according to the Soldbuch so what were they doing to get their award?!?!?!?!

                          I think that is B.Pi.B. 1458.....Brücken Pionier Bataillon 1458?

However I can not find that designation but Pionier Bataillon 1458 did exist and fits the time frame as according to the Soldbuch he handed in his weapons on 22.2.1945 and was kitted out on 23.2.1945 and lastly 15.3.1945 by Marsch Kompanie, Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbidlungs Bataillon 84....the Marsch Kompanie was the transfer company so he was on his way from that unit........

                          Pionier Bataillon 1458

Formed March 1945 with 3 Kompanien.

Under: 158. Feldausbildungs-Division: Troppau (Heeresgruppe Mitte)

I was looking into the unit name "3. Komp., Einsatzgruppe H", that is stamped in the Soldbuch (Page 4, part B) as his trainings unit.
Is that one of the notorious SS groups or just some trainings unit with the same name?
