    Daniele,

One of the best Buchenwald Soldbücher I have ever seen.

Sure a piece of history with the inner circle Buchenwald bad guys signatures in it.

Your man did know what was going on in that KZ !

    yours friendly

        Simply Outstanding.

You would be very hard pressed to find another untouched, legitimate, Buchenwald KL Soldbuch of the quality that is shown here.

An awesome Soldbuch that would be difficult to top. Incidentally, this guy somehow managed to escape justice - he died in the 1960s.

Barry, I'd imagine you would have remembered that, considering Daniele got the book from you (all in good fun of course!)

As I've told you in a few emails, this is a very high caliber and unquestionably original SS-KL Soldbuch. As if the unit assignments and portrait photo weren't enough, the signatures contained within the book make it all the more interesting. Daniele, I like how you have posted images of many of these men. Notice most are still wearing their SS tunics which have been (obviously) stripped of all their insignia and awards.

This book passed through a very evil place and was handled by some very sinister and horrible individuals. If you are looking for just one representative example of a SS-KL Soldbuch, I can't think of many others that could top this one. A truly sobering piece from a dark period of history...

... and in VERY good condition too !!
I am also very pleased to see, that it seems, this man - in opposition to so many films made about this theme - NEVER got an award for his deeds, whatever that may have been.

                      Kind regards,

                      Peter

For those interested, I used to own a special drivers pass to this guy, I am looking for any copies I have of it. It stated he was in BW when it was first bombed by the allies and he was ferrying prisoners back and forth from hospitals who were wounded in the bombing attack. I have read that several thousand died (?) when the allies tried destroying the G-43 production at the camp.

I owned it 10 years ago, and I know I made a copy of it because I was suprised to see the SS actually helping and taking care of prisoners. It was a special pass written in the hand of Shobert and countersigned by Schmidt I believe. It had a nice photo I remember. I will go through my records and if I find it I'll email you a copy and post it here. It was a unique piece of KZ history and it was stolen at the 1999 MAX.
