        Hallo Frontschalden

EM doesn't belong to me. It looks ok and it's marked as follows:

        200

        176/324

no other markings. I'm sending you the pic by pm

.... it could be another case like this?..... a soldier coming from the Austrian Army in 1938? ....

I tried to find an Austrian erkenungsmarke of the thirties but in vain .... however it seems the same numbering of our Austrian Feldwebel Alois Ettl....

              144 176/324 instead of
              24 170/123

seems the same logic!! an other austrian soldiers?

Very interesting link to WP Mufasa - I have a similar tag and also another one with 170/122.
Austrian Erkennungsmarken of the 30-ties are similar to IWW ones but made of aluminium.
                All best

very interesting your austrian tag mr.dogtag! You can post it? far suggests that after the Anschluss the Wehrmacht continued to use the old austrian numbers , transferring numbers of the austrian tag on the new german tag.....

Well, I doubt if this number is actually Austrian roll number as it is identicall for the whole unit - note that the German issue tags have personal number stamped separately.
Coming to Austian interwar tags - here you are - 2 at the top show Austrian Army tags together with inserts. The one with the picture interesting in particular. Note the service entry date on the top one -5.9 1938!
                    So actually a post-Anschluss tag!
The bottom one shows an Austrian Locket used by 44 Grenadier Division ( HuD). This was quite common in this unit to use the lockets instead of German army issue tags. I have already seen at least 4-5 of these issued mostly to supply & driver units.
                    Enjoy!
                    Al

Please note one more detail - on the footer of the top paper insert there is an order number from the printing house - it is dated 7/34. These haven't been in use a lot. A rare piece. It's getting maybe bit off-topic - but does anyone came across similar interwar Austrian tags/inserts?

Hello Mr Dog Tag, any opinion on the dog tag I posted? it was found in a lake (I believe in Ost) together with similar ones. Never seen this code, but it's mentioned on Hoydal's book as unknown if I read it correctly

The tag is authentic and comes from Estonia. That's unfortunately all I can tell you.

Yep, exactly! I see the pictures when they were recovered. Seems like they've been thrown away in the lake? The guy who found them mentioned there was a sabouter unit camped near lake, but this is a bit too vague.
