Soldbuch Pz Jag GD - self propelled gun crew member?

Hi, I guess I'm on a roll today. Sb to a career member of the GD Division. Extremely worn soldbuch. The owner must have been trying to erase the Gross Deutschland entries before capture. Russian on the cover.

After reading Rob's Hetzer sb thread, I thought I would throw this one out there. This man received the drivers badge in bronze, sturm assault badge then the drivers badge in silver.

I have scanned all pages that have unit info that hopefully gives a time line to follow. Pages 6 and 7 have been glued over and the replacement pages ripped out. The only legible fp nr on pages 23-4 is 152?5. For may-june 44.

The debate on pages 4 and 5 on Rob's thread, got me thinking my sb could add to his thread.

    Lee

This is a really interesting Soldbuch, Lee...

Can anyone make out the last unit entry on page 17? It looks like Pz.Inst (Instruktion?) zug 500? What about the one above that? It looks like Kraftf. P. (Kraftfahrpark?) GD?

The replacement units look like Kraftfahr Park Ersatz und Aus.Abt.3, Kraftf.Ers.u.A.Kp. Ers Brigd (mot.) GD and K.F. Ers.u.Ausb.Abt.3

It's interesting that those two entries mentioned above appear in the field unit section...

The late(er) award of the GAB and unit entries would lead me to believe that he was a driver who found himself engaged in at least 3 separate engagements with enemy forces (providing he didn't have any before that) as the dates on the KST nummer entries for these last two field unit entries are dated 1944; the Pz.Jg.Abt.643(sfl.) and Pz.Jg.Abt."Grossdeutschland?) entries are dated 40 and 41)...

Hopefully Ian or someone else can help you out more than I have!

                Rob,

Pz. Inst. Zug =Panzer Instandsetzungs Zug
(unit, which kept the German tanks in running order - Instandsetzung=readjustment,reconstitution...)
                And-
you are right, Kraftf. P. =Kraftfahrpark

                Best,
                Onkel Hans

The pz jg GD abt is entered on 2/43 and 12/43 on page 15. On page 3, it looks like 8/43.

Do you think the sturm award was late in being awarded?

The unit listed above Pz Inst Zug 500 , I cannot fully make out. Kraftf ? ? ? GD For the kompanie is listed 4 WK , is that werkstatt kompanie?

Too difficult for me to tell from the scans. Can you make out the FPN on the 18.April or 01.September 1944 entries on p.15?

Yes, IMHO the 4.WK. stands for Wekrstatt-Kompanie.

As for the GAB award... without having the Einsatztage listed it's impossible to tell for what actions and when as well as with which units it was awarded. Also difficult to tell in what role. It would appear that he spent roughly the last year and a half in a maintenance role, perhaps as a driver or mechanic.

I can't make out the fp nr. but on page 21, it appears that the same stamp was used.
