    My First STUG Soldbuch

The photo has been removed and page 19-20. But I am very happy with it! Not bad for $65.

Does anyone know what the T stands for on the last entry of this page?

I agree with my good friend Kuratorium. The "T" stands for "technisch" or "Technical."

It's a real shame that the photo was torn out IMHO that really hurts the value and overall appeal of the book. It's one thing if a photo was never entered, but I think the book is ruined when it's removed, unless of course you're talking about a highly decorated DKiG or RK recipient, or a very desirable combat unit that served in Divisions such as "Großdeutschland" or a Waffen-SS combat unit in say Das Reich, or Totenkopf, etc.

Are there any awards at least?

Judging from the entries, and if there aren't any awards, I doubt he was a StuG crew member. More than likely he was just support personnel, possibly maintenance.

                  thanks

Thanks for the info guys. Like I said the awards page is gone. But I am very pleased with it. If he was a crew member or not, I won't know.

When I buy a soldbuch or wehrpass, it's the units the man was with and what area of combat that is my greatest interest. Photo gone, that's okay with me. No awards is alright too. Finding a st. gesh. sb anywhere isn't easy. Especially one that I can afford.

I have great interest in the area (Army Group South) this brigade operated. I found a brief piece of info that this brigade had too donate a few stugs to Festungs Breslau as it retreated through the area.

It also came with his fathers' WW1 sb , mp, shooting book , discharge papers, work book from the 1920's and SA shooting book from 11/1933.

Interesting all references I find of the School I do not see any reference to "T".

Could it be the Marschbataillon name "T"?

You mentioned that pages 19/20 were missing, but usually page 22 was used for entering awards. Are there any entries on page 22?

To each his own, but wouldn't you like a Soldbuch to a soldier who actually crewed a Sturmgeschütz and participated in at least some combat, and know what he looked like?

I think the majority of serious Soldbuch collectors all collect Soldbücher for the units and the areas in which they fought, but why not strive for Soldbücher with nice, original photos and combat awards? At least you'll know that the original owner of the Soldbuch actually saw some combat and wasn't some REMF... and having a photo of the guy makes it so much more personable.

StuG unit Soldbücher are actually rather easy to find... for just a few hundred dollars you can have a halfway decent book with a photo and awards. Better to have a Soldbuch to a combat soldier than a guy who did nothing, regardless of the unit and where it fought.

Of course I would like a soldbuch you described. But I can only afford to spend $200-$300 a month on collecting. I like to buy a few pieces a month rather than one or less. I do have about a dozen that are worth a few hundred dollars a piece. But that happens around tax return time or if I can make payments. (Thanks Stormfighter for allowing me to make payments on my first SS soldbuch.) I have 4 now.

My mistake, 21-22 is gone. Page 20 has "eiserne portion erhalten" stamped on it.

As for REMF, that is a degrading term for any soldier. All the men make the wheel turn. I don't think I have ever read a book about German soldiers and not read about rear area troops thrown into battle or put into a kampfgruppe.

I used to collect erkennungsmarken but I ended up going to soldbuchs and wehrpass'. I wanted things more personnal. Also erkennungsmarken are a minefield of fakes.

A photo and medals do not determine what sparks an interest in a particular item for me. What I enjoy the most, is researching the places the man served, reading the history and knowing the id book was actually there.

Please don't rain on my parade, I really like this soldbuch. If I had the money to buy the id books I see here everyday, I would.

                          Sb

Come on, this is not a bad Soldbuch.
According to page 3 he was with Stug units for quite some time and during an
                          interesting period of the war.
And since he was a car-mechanic as a civilian I would guess that he was indeed
technical support personnel (so at least not sitting in an office or something).

Personnaly I prefer complete Soldbücher as well but some collectors (even very serious ones) just don’t care whether or not a picture is still attached to a SB.
And why spend a few 100 $ more to have one with a picture and awards if you
                          don’t care?

So 65 bucks it was? Looks like a fair deal to me.

REMF is a term you can not use anymore...due to political correctness etc.etc. These personnel are now referred to as PONTI's.

                            Personell of no Tactical Importance.

When it comes to collecting of course most people will want an example with a photo, all pages present, nice awards etc. However if you just want an example you have to go with what you can get.

When it comes to my collecting area I do not car what condition they are in as long as they fit the criteria! Some 24 Pz.Div. examples I have are single pages, half Soldbuch with photo missing, even single pages from the Soldbuch and again a few pages from the Wehrpass!

Guys, his Fuhrergeschenk is entered on page 8, all mine that have it have it entered on page 21. Is that an indication that page 21/22 were lost sometime before it was awarded? Or was this entered on random pages sometimes.

Lee, are there any other entries that you haven't shown?

Lastly, can anyone ID the feldpost stamp on the Fuhrergeschenk?

                              Jared
