He could if he was a Feldwebel at the time of the Wehrpaß being....I have quite a few where they sign their rank and name in these documents!

Thats if it does say Feldw. of course.......only the extra scans can prove this

Well you see Ian, at the 'start' of this Wehrpass he was not a Feldwebel, so why would he sign his signature with 'Feldwebel'. In my opinion a second issue.

Daniele C, in my opinion still a second issue.
The first entry in this Wehrpass was in 1937, so then the cover had atleast a 'Pre-war' front cover.
This one has a 'Mid-war' front cover, so in my opinion still a second issue.

In my opinion it was issued on the date stated by the unit stated and by the time it met up with him he had changed units......I do not think this is a second issue as he never had a first one! He was already in the Wehrmacht by the time his Wehrpass was issued

I have quite a few like this that are stapled in and not over stamped simply as they had change unit at the time.

So...if it does not say Feldwebel what does it say?

This cover and style of Wehrpass came in 1938/39. It clearly is not the early Wehrpass as can be seen from the eagle and swastika that is printed on all pages! There could be a date of amendment on the rear cover ...these Wehrass were amended/updated regularly and the date was printed on the bottom of page 1 or the rear cover......

Another thing, the photo is over stamped Kdr. des Streifendienstes....he served here 1.5.1941-10.4.1942.....where he was promoted to Feldwebel!

So, his units prior to the Wehrass be issued are entered, as he was already in the Wehrmacht when the Wehrpass was issued in 1939.....the photo was added between mid 1941 and mid 1942.....or later!

                          Thanks for yours clarifications.
I had thought it would be probable that our Austrian soldier (he was born in Austria, the Inf. Ers. Batl. 134 was formed by austrian soldiers to be integrated into the Wehrmacht and Wehrpass was issued at Engerau, the german name of Petazalka near the austrian border ) was used until 20-july-1940 his old austrian military documents.....

Thanks for your replies all. Have to agree about the Mid-war Wehrpass type, but there is still some thing unclear to me:

As stated on page 1 he got the Wehrpass on 20th july 1939, on that moment he wasn't Feldwebel so why would he sign his signature with Feldwebel?

Firstly this is not the mid war type....I will have a dig around and can show that this type was actually in use by late 1938 or 1939...forget at the moment.

Also, the reason why he signed Feldwebel was....as I pointed out....the photo was clearly added with a unit he was serving in from mid 1941.....whilst at this unit he was promoted to Feldwebel, so there is a high chance that he signe it after this time and of course the photo was not added in 1939 when the Wehrpass was issued!

Over the years I have seen few examples of this and that is why I came to the conclusions I did.

I will also try and post a similiar example ......

                              Regards,
                              Ian

                                Ian,
This second type was published in the Reichsgesetzblatt: #52 on 26April, 1937 and was from the Verordnung über die Musterung und Aushebung von 17 April, 1937.
