    Research help requested

    Gentleman:

At this time I'm researching a relative of a friend.

Its: Unteroffzier Hermann DAHMEN born 13 november 1914

Erkennungsmarke: - VI - 3454 (ID tag number)

According the records I received from the WAST in Berlin he got killed as a member from:

    3. Komp.Pz. Jäger Abteilung 137 near KUSNEZOWKA at 14 april 1943 by shrapnell

    Gravesite: Heldenfriedhof KOMARITSCHI.

The person is NOT listed on the site of Volksbund.

I completed the research on the unit but still need more detailed info on the 3e Komp. (Used Tessin, book on 137 Inf. Div., regular internet sites on Units)

I'm also looking for details for the loaction he got killed and the location of the gravesite KOMARITSCHI.

We are trying to locate his grave.

    Maybe some can help.

    Regards and thanks in advance.

Hi Eric, i found no place with the name of KUSNEZOWKA, however i'll try to help you.

I know that on march and april 1943, when the soldier was killed by shrapnell, the unit fought between these places: Dmitriev-Lgovski, Sevsk, Dmitrovsk-Orlovski.

And the gravesite you're looking for is not KOMARITSCHI, but i think it can be probably Komarichi, a town very close to the front where he was fighting in that period.

In this way all seems to be possible and correct.

    I hope this help!

      Names of places

      LS:

Thanks for the help......I used names as given by the WAST in Berlin. After the war many names changed ......or maybe they just took over what was presented on paper ........

May I ask what source you used .......................

A lot of years of research using maps, microfilms and stories of the units...
And for the place of the grave simply looking google maps...

          Graveyard KOMARICHI

          LS:

          A. thanks....for the prompt answer and the help. I think youre right about Komarichi...if I had look a little further with Google I would have found that it was once spelled the same way as in the WAST letter.

And Komarichi is on the right spot......were the 137 Inf. Div. saw action.....

          Another Question for our members:

DOES SOMEONE KNOW THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE GERMAN GRAVE SITE NEAR OR IN KOMARICHI (Russia) or DOES SOMEONE HAVE WARTIME PICTURES OF THIS GRAVE SITE.

We are seeing the soldiers sister (84 years old) next friday.

Maybe we can bring some information she waited for those years

          All the best
