value of a wehrpass of a silorman of the Bismarck ??

    Hi guy´s

What would be the value of a wehrpass of a sailorman who was stationed and died on the famous battleship The Bismarck.
It comes with a letter which was send (by Raeder) to the family which says that
    he died for "Gross Deutchland".
I do not have pictures yet but what would be the value ??

Are you talking about the Wehrpaß on Militaria321 ?

That one is for sale for 800 Euros and there for some time now.

That is a price that dealers will ask for such a booklet but I have also seen them for sale up to 1500 US$ for just a crewmember.

I think that the letter by Raeder is just a printed version.

The wehrpass I can buy is from a sailor who went down with the ship.
How did this wehrpass survived or was it not kept on the ship but on a naval base ?

I have never seen one for sale before so I think is is quit rare ,or not?

      Thanks for your replies.

The man's Wehrpaß (and/or Soldbuch) wasn't kept onboard the ship but at the base.

Seen a couple of them before but not many !

I have only seen one such WP for sale and it was going for approx $1300 last year - I may be wrong but I think there are only 4 such WP (of ships company who were actually onboard during her final sortie) in circulation, the rest remaining in private/museum collections.

This wehrpass has not got that much entries but this one shows that he took part of the fight against de HOOD.

let me know what you think about it.

                    Thanks

Again, I may be wrong but this might of been the WP I saw for sale last year with Bill Shea being the seller. You might want to contact him via his site www.therupturedduck.com to see if it is.

While I hesitate to comment on price(s), within the last year or so, I sold (to a very well known Soldbuch / Wehrpass collector) a fantastic "Bismarck" set that consisted of the seaman's Wehrpass and 17 or 18 letters to his parents back home, two letters in which he details twice personally handing Hitler cotton wads for his ears during firing demonstrations of the Bismarck's heavier weapons. This specific seaman can be seen in various period photographs standing very near to Hitler on the two occassions mentioned above, and has been confirmed by various noted Bismarck research authorities as indeed having served, and died, aboard the Bismarck.

I went for that also and was told I had it but not the other I went for...when it arrived I found it was a 24 Panzer Division group...the other i went for but not the Bismarck so I was not so upset.....

However that was a good price, with that said it was also lacking entries! Only confirmation of missing rather than being killed in action like most I have seen but confirmed on the crew lists as killed.

                          €250,- if I remember correctly.......generally they are €600 - €1000.

I have two groups with award citations, photos etc. and they did not cost much more than €850, however it depends where you get them from, content etc.etc.

The one I can buy cost 700,00 euro´s which is not too much.
But the seller is a bit of a stranger. First he did not wanted to send me scans of this wehrpass but I told him that I cannot buy a wehrpass which I cannot see personnally so I need at least a few scans. After more then 3 mails he mailed me the ones I put on this thread.
This morning I have mailed him again and asked for his phone number so I could call him and ask him more questions. He said that he does not give his phone number to strangers but he suspect from me that I transfer the 700,00 to him while I also do not know him. I thinks he is a bit WACKO.
