I can because WAF-user Tommy was kind enough to take me with him - thanks again Tommy!
As it was my first show I can not say much about the show itself. Apparently it
was pretty quiet and the Kassel-show in autumn seems to be much bigger.
But as I collect Soldbücher only I kept an eye on these of course. The bigger
dealers did not have anything apart from the stock they have on their web-
pages (since it was quiet they were not able to make many purchases from
visitors of the show either).
The small ones did have almost nothing. Except for one small dealer who happened to have a box full of Wehrpässe and Soldbücher - maybe 120 or
so altogether, 80% SB.
He said it was the collection of an old man who passed away. Needless to say
this box was exactly what I had hoped for.
Anyway, I picked three (one with an African cufftitle, one for late war division
Ulrich von Hutten and Rgt. List and one for a Heeresflakguy). The dealer said
he had already taken some out for his collection so no hidden DKiG-SB or
anything ... but this collection sure saved my day. And I would have spent
much more time with it had not my companions already been bored to death
by my search
As this thread is called Kassel report - let me report a little ...
This show in November was about twice as big as the one in Summer. I guess there were maybe a bit more than 200 dealers of which maybe a third were only selling weapons.
We were there on the first day and it was quite crowded, it did really not look to me as if the crisis was felt there.
As I only collect ID-documents I focused on these of course. As usual one can forget the big dealers because they have their stuff on their web-pages anyway (maybe with
the exception of Weitze this year). Interesting are the small dealers and fortunately there were some who had quite a few of the documents I was looking for. There one still has the chance to find something nice for a decent price.
So is it worth going there? From a sober document-collectors point of view it probably isn't. Prices are generally not lower than on the internet, not to mention the costs for the voyage.
Would I go again? Of course, it is pure fun! Meeting other guys from the forum is good and you never know what you find in one of those stacks of documents ...
