    Soldbuch Help

Hey Gents, I have this soldbuch from an infantrymen with the rank oberfunkmeister. His soldbuch doesn't say silber or bronze for his IAB award but a member said that it would be silver if he's an infantry soldier. Any how here are my questions...

Can anyone tell me what kind of unit he served in and what his job was? (I know infantry but I dont know what all the numbers and abbreviations mean)

How would I be able to know if he wore a specialist patch like signals (relates to the 1st question) ?

Also can you tell me a little bit about his units history? I have no idea how and where to search for such information being that i dont speak german.

Thanks! Please let me know if you need certain pages of the soldbuch photographed!

        Hi,

this thread still lacks a reply ... so here we go …

Page No. 1 show his rise in ranks, starting with Gefreiter, ending with
        Oberfunkmeister.
As he was already a NCO in 1939 apparently, he must have seen a lot of the
war. Then there is his signature and below the No. of his dog tag which was
replaced (reason unknown, maybe lost). It was first a tag of Nachrichten Ers.
Kp. 21 (a basically a training unit) and then Grenadier Regiment 326 (a
frontline unit which did most of its fighting in the East, sooner or later he must
have been with this unit but it is not clear how long).

Your second scan is more important because it shows his units, most
important part is “C. Feldtruppenteil” because it gives his “front line units”,
“B” and “D” are more or less his training / home units (won’t go into details
now). Your guy was with Infantry Regiment 24 all the time but as this unit
was renamed quite early in the war there must be more units noted on page
17 (usually it’s this page, so we need a scan!).

Third scan is about his awards, above the red box it sais that he was awarded
the Ostmedaille while in the red box it sais that they handed im out the actual award. So he earned the medal in 42 while he received it at the end of 1944
        apparently.
On the picture of him in the other thread you see his uniform with a large
ribbon for the EK2 and a small one for the Ostmedaille.

Hope I did not forget too much, as I said, more scans would help.

Thanks for your reply! It has helped me tremendously.

Please tell me what other pages would be of more help?

Can you tell me what exactly an oberfunkmeister does?
Does he wear a sleeve patch for a specialty?

Thanks so much this is really fascinating to me

You might want to check this out:

            http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/uniforme...ialistheer.htm

            and this

            http://www.abwehr.co.uk/signals/equipment/uniforms.html

these pages give a good idea.

As I said, page 17 would be nice to see as his other units are listed there.

Some of your questions on the roll of a funkmeister were answered in your previous thread

              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=354619

From what you've shown he was clearly working as a signals sergeant with the stab (headquarters) of the III Btl. of IR 24, 21 Inf.Div. at one point and as signals sergeant for the 4 and 8 companies earlier on. As Jochen says, as the last entry is crossed out there should be further unit entries.
