    SS Wehrpass-TOTENKOPF I.R.3

Gents I have been offered this Wehrpass but my knowledge is weak when it comes to SS items.
The book is named to a Wilhelm Scheren(Born 1920). Entries are from 1939 until his death 1n spring 1942. He served with the SS-HEIMWEHR DANZIG, SS TOTENKOPF I.R.3 and others. He was awarded the SS Heimwehr Danzig Pin, Wound Badge and the EK11.
Views on this are much appriciated and anymore info on the soldier.

It looks like a good book to me...nothing I can see seems to be out of order. Some of the SS experts will weigh in soon, I'm sure.

If the price is good, go for it.

The feldpostnummer over the picture (17354) does not come back to any SS unit, which makes it suspect. I should say, makes the photo suspect.

Jeff is correct. To add to this, The quality of the stamp itself is (as you can clearly see) extremely poor. It was rare (but not unknown) for a Feldpost stamp to be the authorizing stamp for a Wehrpass photo, and while not an immediate "Red Flag", it sure does not help any in this case.

Would it be possible to post of scans one pages 1 and 4 so the WBK can be identified ???

The piping on his Shoulder Boards is not white either...it looks to be Black (Engineer) or some other (very) dark color....this not fitting with any of the entries shown in these scans......

I have seen (and owned) many of these SS TIR 3 Wehrpasses over the years that never had photos applied to them (the "hows and whys" of which I cannot explain or adequately answer). This Wehrpass may (??) have been one of those SS TIR 3 pictureless Wehrpasses at one time (but obviously not any more).......

Overall, it looks like it was a decent book that has underwent some slight modifications over time.....

If anyone else would like to comment, please be my guest....

            Guys
Thanks you kindly for the invaluable information regarding this pass:
            Pages 1 and 4 below.
I hope I am not the bearer of bad news to the present owner.

I am at present trying to trace the soldier throught the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge as he was killed in action but it does take longer than the CWG commission.

The straps are one of the pre-war types that originaly had silver/black piping and which has been removed later on (according to new regulations).

                Cheers

                  Fritz:

Thank you for that information - I definitely do not have the experience / knowledge that others (like you) have in the area of uniforms.

Even with this shoulder board information, there is still the "issue" of that Feldpost Number not making any sense at all in this Wehrpass. Of course, the "Totenkopf" tab is correct for this Wehrpass, but the reasoning behind that specifc Feldpost Stamp is a major concern.

It would be interesting to hear others opinions on this issue...

You are welcome, I just wanted to clarify.

On the WP itself I can't comment as that is not my collecting interest, all I can say is that the picture fits in that time-frame (ca. 1939) very well.

                    Cheers

Agreed. The picture does indeed fit the time period (he even looks to be the proper age as per his birthdate listed in the Wehrpass).

The Feldpost stamp is the real "mystery" here....the Numbers just do not make sense, and the stamp itself is of very poor manufacture / quality......

                        After mega searching this is the only item I can find relating to the FP No;
                        www.engel-militaria.de
                        Item 48.8032

                        In German
Feldmäßiges Besitzzeugnis, mit Schreibmaschine geschrieben, für das Ärmel-band Kurland. Hauptscharführer Haralds Nikis 19/SS-Gren.Rgt.42. Ausgestellt 15.4.1945 im Felde. OU SS-Obersturmbannführer u. Kdr.. Gestempelt mit Feldpostnummer 17354. Altes vergilbtes stärkeres Papier.

                        In English
Field-moderate possession certification, with typewriter written, for the sleeve volume cure country. Main crowd leader Haralds Nikis 19/SS-Gren.Rgt.42. I have had some pics emailed from Judas(TY)and the book is near identical less the FP No,
I will put them on tomorrow.

Thanks for everbody's help on this.
