    New Officer Soldbuch-Comments?

I just bought this from Ricks latest list at Historical Media http://www.historical-media.com/id10103.htm . Any comments or help with the unit would be appreciated.

I couldn't figure out how to get the link to highlight. Sorry.

There are no problems with that one.....uncannily someone else asked me about this last week but unfortunately I was away and unable to answer his PM at the time of Rick's updated.

What exactly do you want to know? Or, what do you know already?

Thanks Ian, I know you are very busy, but the main thing I am interested in knowing (which may be a dumb question because of his combat badges) but did this guys unit see alot of combat or was his unit a rear area unit? Do you have any info on the unit? Thanks.

          Yesss!

This is what I call a good Soldbuch.
I´m also kinda busy right now, but I tell you bout 3 of the units I was able to read.

          Grenadier-Regiment 23

Belonged to the 11th infantry division, seit up in 10/42 - stationed Northern Russia at that time (Wolchow) . Combat unit.

          Infanterie Regiment 504

          Northern Russia , combat unit.

          Festungs Bataillon 906

Set up 43 in Italy from several Marscheinheiten. They were in Bastia (Isle of Corsica, Mediterranean sea) and ended up in the city of Genua, Italy in 1945. In between the will surely have had a lot of action, nothing too stationary. Had to fight with allied invasion forces.....unnecessary to mention: combat unit.
Better than staying in Russia, but by no means a safe place, although it was a warm and mostly dry place after all.

There are some...well, how should I say?...[.EDIT] : difficult to read entries, like the blood donation that is mentioned above....

          Congrats, really a nice one!

Well, nice to know where this one went

That's a very nice and original Soldbuch. I really like the photo with him wearing his tropical uniform.

I thought the price was rather fair - knew someone would pick it up

              Congrats.

You mean donated 250 ccm of blood?

Additional to what has already been mentioned......

Whilst serving with Inf.Rgt. 23 and 503 he belonged to 13 Kompanie which was the I.G. or Infanterie Geschütz - Infantry Gun/Cannon Company.

Traditionally 4 Kompanie was a heavy machine gun company, however not sure with the Festung Bataillon....this was an independant Army Troops unit and did not come under a Division as such. It could be attached to one of course!

The KVK I m/s appears to be awarded by General Kommando Lombardia which was the north of Italy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lombardy

                  FP Nr. 45232 - 1. Kriegslazarett Kriegslazarett-Abteilung 608. (donated 500 ccm of blood here!)

                  FP Nr. 57902 - Stab u. 1.-4. Kompanie, Festungs-Bataillon 906.

                    OMG!
What a mistake! Okay, this looked like "gespuckt" in the begining , but- shame on me- "gespendet" (donated) makes a lot more sense...

Lol, I thought that should mean donated. Is it common to list something like blood donations in the awards section? At first glance I thought this was some award I couldn't make out.

                          I have examples on any page of the Soldbuch....mainly 12-13, 14-15, 20-22.
Normally if the person is not suitable as a blood donor, then the entry is made on the inside cover or page 1 to reflect that.

                          /Ian
